...which brand and what kind of oil is it? Is it specially labeled for babies? If not how much do you give?

I want to get one, but I don't know if I want cod liver oil or a fish oil made from small fish (like I take).

I've been giving dd, almost 8 months, the same fish oil that older dd and I take. It is Metagenics balanced EPA/DHA Liquid, lemon flavor.
This is what our naturopath rec'd for our family.
Dd is now up to 1/2 tsp per day. We started her on 1/4 tsp 3x a week when she was 5 months. I put it in a medicine dropper and she takes it no problem...opens up like a baby bird. The fish it's from: herring, tuna, salmon, cod and mackarel.

I've been taking expecta so it gives her DHA through breastmilk. I think once she starts slowing down on nursing, though, I'm going to have to look at this too.
But if you are still primarily nursing you can take it yourself.

We will be using Baby's Only Essentials DHA/ARA Supplement.

Is it a powder made from egg yolk rather than fish (felt more confident about mercury issues this way).

My ped noted that you do need to be careful about not overdosing -- evidently too much omegas can lead to bleeding issues?

Please be careful with DHA supplements. Some have some really scary ingredients/processes.

Subliminal: Like what? Where can I find more info on this?
I'm looking into some of the good brands that Naturopaths recommend. (like genestra, seroyal, pharmax...) Maybe those don't apply?

This is super wordy, and mostly addresses DHA in formula, but also organic foods, etc.

http://www.cornucopia.org/DHA/DHA_Ex...ummary_web.pdf

"contain DHA- and ARA-containing oils that are novel foods—extracted from laboratory-grown fermented algae and fungus and processed utilizing a toxic chemical, hexane."

I think the fish oil kinds are usually better. I haven't researched every brand, so I can't say absolutely across the board. Some of the companies say "hexane free" right on the labels(or at least on the site).

I know the Baby's Only is both hexane free and is not Life's DHA.

It does thin the blood--so if you take too much or give too much to baby that is a danger.
