Breastfeeding while pregnant / newly pregnant .. and cramps?

Hello ! I am currently nursing a 19 month old toddler, about 3 to 4 times a day... Today, just got a lovely positive test, so I am about three or four weeks pregnant . ... I have noticed in the middle of nursing, a cramp, a rather not so pleasant feeling of a rock in my gut/uterus while nursing.. When this occurs I have been breaking the seal on my nursing (taking him off the nipple) . It was my understanding it was OK to breastfeed while pregnant.. however, I a wondering if the nursing is causing my uterus to contract ? Can this accidently cause a miscarriage - is this safe, is the cramping normal ?? Should I start to wean, I dont want anything to happen to the tiny tadpole in my womb ???? I never had any problems with pre-term labor, no miscarriages or even early contractions in the past...

Should I be concerned at all? Should I just stop nursing when I feel a Cramp ? Please advise........... I hadnt been planning to wean, but I do not want to jeopardize this new life either....... ????

Congratulations on your pregnancy! How exciting!
According to LLL, uterine contractions caused by breastfeeding during pregnancy posses no known danger to the fetus. This is due to the release of oxytocin from the nipple stimulation. (This is similar to the process that causes contractions due to sexual activity while pregnant, and most women don't stop having sex while pregnant....)
If this crosses over into pain, or if you are still concerned, please disccus this with your health care provider.

it is a uterine contraction, it won't cause a miscarriage by itself, you don't have to cut the nursing session short, it will release after a bit.
