How do you organize your WIPs?

Between knitting, crocheting, and spinning I seem to have half finished projects everywhere. It's getting worse since I'm working on holiday gifts now too. How do you keep your in progress projects organized?

I need help with this too. Right now they are scattered around the living room! I currently have 5 projects going right now.

I try to only have on going at a time, but I am getting ready to start a verrrrrry long (literally even ) very repetitive project, I am going to have to have more than one going....

I really, really try to only have one going at a time. If I have multiple projects going I put them in a freezer bag or larger bag with all of the needles, instructions, etc in the same bag (needles, hoops and other small loose objects go in a smaller bag inside the larger bag). I keep the bags in a basket (if it's a REALLY insane crafting time of year, a laundry basket!) against the wall near the couch.

I keep each project with needles and directions each in their own small tote bag. This way I can just grab one and go when I need to take something with me in the car, to a soccer game, meeting, etc.

I usually have a few projects going at one time. An easy one to take on the go, and a few harder ones at home. I finally designated a basket for all wip's (work in progress) and I keep the knitting and pattern in there. I now have 2 baskets, one upstairs and one down. This had made things much easier.

On a side note, I finally got a binder, sheet protectors, and some dividers to organize all the papers and patters I have lying around. I love it! No more rummaging for that last page of a patten I can't seem to find.

I have upgraded to a big zippered bag (ban velcro!) that holds all my WIPs. I limit myself to three at a time- one easy one that I can do while socializing or helping my kids with their homework, one interesting challenging one, and the third can go either way. Each project & its needles are in their own smaller bag within the big one, so nothing gets too tangled. I have a separate bag in the big bag with general supplies that I might use for any project- scissors, measuring tape, pen & paper, nail file, etc.

I'm not an organized person by nature, but am finding that this system works beautifully for me and eliminates the frustration of hunting around for things. When I have even a few minutes to knit I can easily grab what I need and get to it!

I have a basket that I keep my yarn projects in. I usually have a large project going and then keep one smaller project going in between so I can take breaks from the long repititions. Sometimes I'll have a 3rd project going if I'm trying something new but I try not to have more than that going at once. (Unless you count the half pairs of mittens or such as another project. Oops. I sometimes do one and then work on another smaller project before doing the other.) If I have a sewing project or other craft going that is kept in my stash box instead of the basket but I try to do those projects at one time and finish them or I seem to never get back to them.

I keep all of my knitting WIP in my knitting bag, then I have a small plastic container on the table (bad but no where else to put it now) that has 1 braid of fiber for spinning along with my circs, spindles and other items.  I try to keep it all contained....then I have 6 or 7 containers of yarn and fiber in my closet :).

Lots and lots of small IKEA bags. That way I can grab and go. I seem to do most long stretches at sports practices

Wait a minute. You're supposed to ORGANIZE them? orngbiggrin.gif I think I missed that memo. eyesroll.gif

Mine are in bags, scattered all over the house. So I'm no help. winky.gif

If I can keep track of the one I am most focussed on at any given moment, I consider that organized Sheepish.gif
