I know I'm not supposed to put anything between a carseat and child, but ...

... DS1 is wetting his pants semi regularly (I'm suspecting it is a reaction to wheat) and I want to avoid having to wash the car seat cover regularly since it's such a PITA and takes 2 days to dry!, so I want to put a waterproof mattress pad and maybe a thin towel under him so it catches the accidents. Is this a complete no no or is it better than having to wash the cover and risk wearing it out. If it makes any difference he's in a Radian XT.

Get one of those waterproof lap pads and put it under him. It's fine as long as it's not compressable. If you need more absorbancy you could use a disposable chux pad.

Sunshine Kids makes a pee pad specifically for the Radian that you could use. I think it's called the Dry Seat? You could use that safely.

I just looked up the dry pad on Amazon and it has fairly negative reviews for being waterproof. Anyone here have experience with it?

I was wondering this too. I also have a Radian and was wondering what would work better, the Dry Pad or a chux pad of somesort.

I have no personal experience with them but I had heard good things about them. It's the only thing I would feel comfortable using, except maybe a prefold under them. The water proof shower curtain seems too slippery to me.

I routinely put a prefold, folded in half, under the bum area when my kids were PL'ing. They also make waterproof lap pads that are widely available that you can cut to size.

I would use a chux pad, personally. You can find them at medical supply stores or at a pet stores (for trianing puppies).

I made one using PUL and then two layers of flannel. It's worked so far! (Taking the carseat in and out and the cover on a off is such a huge PITA!)

I would agree that a chux pad would probably be best if this is a somewhat regular occurrence. You can also get them in the Depends aisle at any drugstore, they are called something like "Adult Incontinence Pads"

We used the chux pads when he was first out of diapers. but they got bunched up and often slid out from under him (luckily not when he had an accident!). Now I want to use something I could cut to fit in his seat and around the buckles so it wouldn't slide as easily.
