Will I have any problems UCing with medicaid. Do I HAVE to bring baby in for a checkup if I have medicaid? Just wondering. I usually don't bother bringing my children to the doctor unless they have something wrong with them since I don't vaccinate and I can tell if there is something wrong.

Also, for those who have used medicaid, when should I notify the doctor or hospital midwife(if they are covered?) that I've had my baby if I go with prenatal care til the end?
Medicaid is effective as soon as you qualify for it. So basically you get an application, fill it out, and then bring it in and they'll go through your application and interview you as needed. Afterwards, they'll decide if you qualify or not right away, and tell you right off the bat. You'll then get a letter in the mail saying that you qualify, and it'll give you your ID number. Later, you'll get sent a card. I never got my card, though... XD

But while I was waiting for my number, I just told the hospital that I was applying for Medicaid, and they didn't bill me until I got the Medicaid.

I've also chose not to get some procedures done, like not scheduling biweekly ultrasounds with the perinatologists. My doctor didn't seem to care at all, and has just been scheduling normal ultrasounds no more than every four weeks, just to make sure they are growing alright and to check their position, which, both things are especially important with twins.

I don't think Medicaid really cares what you do or don't do, they are more likely to not cover something than be mad at you for not doing something where they'd just have to pay for it. Lol.

Thanks Almi. That was very helpful. I'll get my paperwork in then and hopefully I'll qualify without a problem.

Good luck, I'm not married and considered low income, so I qualified easily. I'm not sure how they do it for married couples. I know in my state, I just had to be single, pregnant, and make less than $2,000 a month to qualify. Not sure how that would change if I were married.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, too, is that they wanted proof of my pregnancy via a due date signed by my OB.

Thanks, yeah, I am pretty sure we meet the income guidelines as a family of 4. I qualified in Minnesota last pregnancy although I never used it cuz I chose to UP. Hubby doesn't make a lot and I'm a SAHM.

I read your post b/c I am also feeling like my fundus is a little high for 11wks along and wanted to see if you'd found out anything I'm happy to sit tight with mine for now as I'll probably see a mw for prenatal care even if we ultimately UC.

Anyways, I wanted to chime in with Almi on Medicaid - I had it during my first three pregnancies. Firstly, it was retroactive and covered 3 months of medical bills counting back from the day I applied Secondly, I turned down lots of procedures with my doctor and ultimately homebirthed with a mw and Medicaid never said anything. They just covered the prenatal workup and postpartum Rhogam I needed, and the u/s I had with baby #2 and #3.

I understand how you feel about avoiding state assistance. I think I could probably qualify with this pregnancy and it would cover much my insurance doesn't... but I hesitate to regardless.

Oh, you know, I want to say one more thing.

Before I knew I was having twins, my doctor said my uterus was right where it should be for how far along I was...then he did my first ultrasound! So fundal height that early on doesn't mean anything!

I suppose your twins are more side by side then? Sometimes fundal height can mean something if you are much larger but it doesn't have to. I'm waiting for my medicaid interview next Friday and then I'll set up an appointment and hopefully get an ultrasound. I just want to know what's in there.
I've had worse symptoms with this pregnancy as well so with everything it makes me wonder and makes me want to find out. I'm not sure if I'll want to do regular prenatal care yet. I just know I want an ultrasound and I can't really afford one on my own. If medicaid doesn't go through for some reason, I will probably still get an ultrasound but will have to make payments for it or something.

I definitely 2nd this. With our 1st set I measured right on with my gestational weeks the entire pregnancy. At 39 wks I finally jumped to 42 cm in fundal height. But that was it. With the 2nd set I actually measured behind up until 16 wks and at 16 measured only 17 cm...which did not even cause my mw to blink or even think about twins. At 21 wks I measured 23 but she said it was still way within the range of normal. Only an hor after that measurement we saw two babies on the u/s!!! LOL! In single pregnancies I usually measure 2 cm behind my gestational weeks so I knew I was a little ahead at 16 and 21 wks but never enough to cause question. I just figured with having had so many pregnanices that maybe muscle tone wasn't as good as it used to be. haha! I"ve read and heard that you really can't base anything on fundal height or measurements until 21 or so weeks. Usually that is when it really starts jumping. And with our 2nd set it definitely did after that. After about 22 wks it jumped by leaps and bounds until I ended up at 52 cm!!! I got BIG with them.

Blargh, I feel twice as big as I did yesterday, no joke. I felt comfortable yesterday, but today my skin feels stretched and you can literally see the difference (I stick out more)...I can feel the difference too - the babies can't move around as freely. Geez!

How far along are you, Almi?
Oh, weird, for some reason I totally missed your other post. Yes, my twins are perfectly side by side, my belly is really wide instead of sticking out really far. :3

I'm 32.5 weeks. Lol, here's my belly, it's a lot bigger than last week's pic.

Found out why I felt that way - I went from 36 cm to 42 in two weeks!  =O

Wow, that's quite the jump!

I know, I really couldn't believe it, I was 35 cm at 28 weeks, a little over 36 at 30 weeks, then a huge growth spurt!

I went to an early pregnancy center today for pregnancy confirmation to appease medicaid and they offered an ultrasound. So, I got the ultrasound and found 1 little baby in there with a nice little heartbeat.gif.

I'm not too surprised. I was really doubting there were two by now since I'm just not that big. smile.gif So, there we have it.

I went in for an US when I was 7 months along (I suspected twins the entire time). I just called an OB who I thought would be open minded (not the case) and went in for the scan. That was 20 years ago though. He LIED and told me they were breech which they were not because I had been  playing with their feet up near my ribs and could feel both their heads in my pelvis. He then proceeded to tell me everything that was going to go wrong if I attempted a homebirth. I walked out and had my nice birth the way I wanted to.

I measured 69 at 40 weeks and the babies were almost 7 and a half pounds each.

That is horrible! I'm glad you got to walk out and had the birth you wanted. These days, they might report you to CPS and force you into a c-section :(.

What a dick.  I've been able to tell that my twins were both vertex since I was about 22 weeks.  Like you said, playing with feets by my ribs.  I've never felt either of my babies' heads...at least not that I could tell. :(

...SIXTY NINE CENTIMETERS?!

yes, the guy was a jerk, I thought he would be more open minded because he was a Sikh was he wasn't. Yeah 69 at full term. Mine were head down early too, do docs think we moms are morons??? You can't feel the heads?

Lol, no, I can't.  I mean, I probably can, but just can't tell what I'm feeling?  The bottom of my uterus feels just as hard as the top sometimes (unless it's really relaxed), but the bottom just feels like a tough muscle most of the time, I can't feel any bumps for sure, though sometimes one baby will hiccup way down there, and I can feel their arms flailing down there sometimes.  The bottom of my belly is a big fat flap that's hard to palpate through, and even when I do, still no heads.  Maybe they're just so far down?  I can always feel their backs, butts, legs.  Or maybe they're headless!  Lol, nah, they can't be, that's their heads in my avatar.
