Muslin:
Flannel(solid and print):
And just your basic print cotton:

Batting- about $14-16/yd. for really wide, or a packaged crib size- about $12
Fleece- I don't buy a lot- but maybe $12/yd. full price, but often $6-8 on sale
Muslin- I never pay more than 1.50/yd.
Flannel- $4.50-$11/yd. depending on designer/store
Print cotton: cheapest about $2.99- on up to over $15 for designer/imported

I am in Utah

I know. In our area, prices have all jumped since the local wm stopped selling fabrics.

I'm trying to x amount of 'free, useful' projects (right now making kids pj's from our old clothes) before buying any more.

if you have a Jo Anne fabrics in your area, sign up for the mailing list. I get 50% coupons in the mail frequently. Or you can wait for 50% off sale on notions, thread, whatever.

With a coupon:
flannel $2 a yard
needles $1.50 a pkg, etc.

Also check the web for pricing on notions.

eeek ya I was used to wm pricing because ours as well went out. Their is another WM about 30 min away with a fabric dept. I was planning on going to but it has been about two years( busy with babies) since I have bought anything.

Those prices are about what I pay out here. I very rarely buy fabric that isn't on sale or without a coupon. And a GOOD coupon, 40-50% off. And I'm learning to love upcycling! We have a goodwill outlet, where clothes are .99/lb. (which I might add, is a wonderful place to find gymboree, gap, hanna, etc!!) So, I go there and buy garments that I like the fabric its made of. Or just any old thrift store that has a fabric section. A lot of the fabric I see at thrift stores I think is hideous, but I do fairly frequently find nice solid color knit interlock or fleece, which is always nice to have!

And I also one time posted a craigslist ad.. you buy the fabric, I'll sew something for you, in exchange for keeping the leftover fabric. (With the assumption that they would buy more fabric than necessary for the project) I made a birthday dress for a little girl and her mom brought a nice bag of fabric If you go that route I'd recommend specifying a few things that you're willing to sew that you're confident/quick in and also specify what kind of fabrics you're looking for. So I might say, pants, raglan shirt (ls, ss, or hoodie) or soft soled baby shoes, and looking for knit interlock or fleece.
