you are not alone - I have 3 girls: 10, 6 & 1
Every item has a home, and yet they lose things, too. All.The.Time.
They think that they don't have to do schoolwork because they already know "everything." It's like pulling teeth to encourage them to do a few ((easy)) math problems or answer an impromptu question. We're primarily unschooling, but some days I feel like we're failing them because they don't every "want" to learn anything.
BUT
I never eat lunch or breakfast because I'm always picking up their stuff.
I find library books everywhere.
They leave markers on the floor, and the toddler draws on the wall.
They run out of clean clothes because they leave their dirty clothes all over the house and don't bring them to the laundry room even when I ask them 15 times.
It takes us an hour to get anywhere because they lose the water bottle, shoes, hair bands, etc. I spend all day reminding them to do "xyz" - that we're leaving in 30 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes, now. And what are they doing? Swinging in the back yard in their pjs or something equally absurd.

Sorry for the vent.
We're supposed to be going to a Halloween party in 30 minutes. They were reminded to eat lunch half hour ago, and they haven't. They "do" have their costumes on, at least, but I think one mask is lost, and I guarantee they want makeup ...
