Midwife interview this morning

I went to interview a midwife today. My options around here are pretty slim, and given that I go so fast during births I wanted somebody close by. I was afraid she would be too hands on for my tastes but I was very pleasantly surprised. She turned out to be the midwife I wish I had with my other two children.

My past experience was not optimal and I didn't realize I carried so much baggage until I unloaded it today. She was personable, kind, and attentive. My biggest goal is to have someone I can form a close relationship with and I'm really so glad I went to see her, I think we're going to have a really good experience together.

That sounds great! I met with a new midwife today also and had just about the same experience. I was also worried that she would be too 'hands on' but she is just as free about her ideas of birth as I am . I really, really liked her and am so excited to have found a CNM who is a radical!! And her office is in her house which is literally 3 blocks away from us. I didn't want to do any prenatal testing except for the 20 week ultrasound (just to check the placenta because I have had previa issues in the past). She is cool with that - she actually knows an ultrasound tech who has a mobile machine and will come to my house!! Yay!! I just love that.

Did you go alone or did DH and kids meet her too? Will your insurance cover a midwife?

That sounds great, how awesome that we both had good interviews today!

Her office is also in her house, which I love because it reminds me of my midwife with Liam. I ended up going alone so we could have some undisturbed time to talk, her assistant was there as well. Her fee is $4000 but Tricare will reimburse $1600-$1700 of that after the birth. She's gung-ho about not missing appointments or rescheduling them and making sure someone is always available which I like, she will leave the prenatal stuff up to me, she just wants to make sure that I have all the information before making a decision.

Next appointment will be for sometime between 8 and 12 weeks, DH and the kids will most likely come along for that one.

Ours costs $4000 also. She takes monthly payments so that will help us figure out how to pay for this I don't have maternity coverage right now so we are totally going out of pocket.

Are you going to do any early testing?

My last birth wasn't covered and it was tough to pay out of pocket I think we're going to break up our's into big chunks, it just has to be paid by 36 weeks. It helps that the birth is after tax season I don't think I'll be doing any early prenatal testing, the only things I really want to do are iron checks, one anatomy scan between 20-25 weeks, and GBS.

I'm glad your app't went so well.  I was so nervous meeting my MW but she made me feel totally comfortable and now we miss her after we have the babe.

The midwife interviews sound great, glad they went well!

I've emailed with my midwife a couple times. I'm not sure when I'll have my first appointment with her. December I would guess, but maybe not until January.
