She's beyond obsessed with them. We let her take a step on by herself but for stepping off we swing her over the threshold to make sure she doesn't trip (she'd probably be fine but we don't want any accidents). But she's a kid really into motion (loves swings, being tossed around, etc.).

DS1, 2.5 y/o, can handle them well with assistance (holding hands and reminding him to step off the end).
He has, however, as of our last airport visit, decided that they are "too scary," and he insists upon being held.
He's in a "too scary" phase, though. Downloads of Sesame Street are too scary. Cows are scary (or were for a while... I think he's over this one). Oh, my sensitive little guy

omg ds1 LOVES them! we ride up and down them at the mall for no reason. he is 18months
he wants to sit on them, but i make him hold my hand and stand. if he wants to walk up a bit, i dont mind, but he must always hold my hand. my dh insists on reminding him to step off at the end, but he does just fine w/o being reminded

Loves them and always has. At 2.25 she does them completely by herself. It must say something about me spending way too much time at the mall.
One of my first memories is of being carried down the escalator by a teenager to my waiting mom below, hysterical. I had a huge fear of them up until maybe 4 or 5.
