The Container Store

Ever been there? The closest one to me is about 50 mintues away, I am trying to decide if I should make the trip. I love organizing stuff and I think the options around here (target, staples etc.) aren't cutting it for me. Has anyone ever been there? Is it worth the trip?

Some of the stuff can be a little overpriced, but if you love looking at containers, it is the place to be. I can actually spend hours just browsing

I went once and found it to be overwhelming and overpriced.
I guess it all depends how much money you are planning to spend and how detailed you want to get with containers, racks, etc.

You can easily drop $500 and still not have a closet done.

I love to look and can also spend a lot of time just browsing the shelves--I often get ideas and inspiration from just looking at the products that are out there--but I don't like to buy as I, too, find it to be pretty expensive.

It is like crack for organizers.

Some very cool stuff but way way way overpriced. I have bought a few things there when I needed something very specific but for general baskets and bins it is super pricey. Super cute but pricey.

They have a lot of their items online so you could explore first to see if it is in the ballpark of what you are looking for.

Crack for organizers

I guess they don't have anything "out of the ordinary" for my love of organizing. I may go anyway, I'm interested to see what they have. A whole store dedicated to containers sounds inspiring.

We don't have TCS where I live, but we do have an equivalent, "Howard's Storage World". I like to go there and browse, as well as read their catalogue for inspiration, and then go to Target or similar to actually buy what I need for a much better price.

I say go check it out! Some stuff is reasonably priced and you will be inspired just by walking through the store!

Why not check out their website to preview their items/prices before making the drive?

I would like to get to a container store sometime because they're the only place I know of for sure that has a FlipFOLD Laundry Folder.

The only time I've ever gone if it I had a coupon with me. Target, Wal*Mart, and stores like Marshall's and TJ Maxx are MUCH cheaper.

I love going to the store... but can't afford a thing there. I'd look online to see if the prices are worth the drive.

I also type in 'elfa' on cl a lot and see what comes up.

overwhelming and overpriced. I go there when I want something specific that I know they will have and/or I haven't been able to find easily elsewhere.

If I don't have something specific in mind (and even when I do), I can spend $80-100 very quickly.

Over the past year I have "containerized" our entire house. The Container Store has some neat, unique items and some highly specialized solutions that I have not found elsewhere. Particularly interesting to me were some of the mini containers for displaying / storing small fragile items.

That said I purchased nearly all of our containers at Wal-Mart. They simply had the best price and also surprisingly selection and even quality of containers. The crazy thing was different Wal-Mart stores had sharply different selections, so I had to visit a few stores to get all the sizes I wanted.

I bought nearly 100% clear containers to minimize the need for labeling and even with labels it makes it much easier to manage the contents without opening the bins.

For most containers I have found Sterilite to be the most cost effective and nice solid containers, Rubbermaid is a close second.

Target is MUCH more consistent from store to store, but I found them more useful for the smallest containers and a few specialty ones.

Good luck finding your containers, they have been a HUGE improvement to storing and managing our things, especially for the kids. They LOVE clear bins for their toys and crafts!
