I got her a couple songs by The Police which she loves. And, oddly, one of her favs is Money by Pink floyd!
Anyone have any other ideas???
She likes rock/pop - but obviously given her age I'm trying to keep it on the tamer side

TIA

i did talk with dh. problem is, he listens to very little current music. and there are so few artists and bands today that actually play instruments anymore. we both really like amy winehouse. she has a great band (all talented musicians) and some strong bass lines. however, some of her lyrics may not be appropriate for your 10-year-old.Â
Â
dh loves old r&b and soul. loves the bass player (donald "duck" dunn) for otis redding and aretha franklin. most of james brown's stuff is bass heavy. dh also recommended parliament and sly and the family stone. when we were talking about it, we actually put on some sly and the family stone and dh and dd danced all around the house (very fun). their music also, for the most part, is very positive, so appropriate for your daughter.

oh, bill withers comes to mind as well.  here's a good example.

gosh, i know it's over 25 years old (man, do i feel old), but billie jean is another good example. although, now that i listen to it, it was probably a machine making that sound. :(
Â
also, don't know if you're familiar with esperanza spalding. she plays the bass (electric and upright) and she sings (not easy to do). i really like her (and she's CURRENT). here's some footage of her playing. here's some more.
Â
how great that you're encouraging your daughter's interests. we're hoping (no pressure) that dd will want to play an instrument. she already has an interest in music and she loves to dance and sing, i'm guessing because there's a lot of music in the house and dh and i both sing (a lot)! we love exposing her to different genres and i especially like to expose her to women who sing, play an instrument and write their own songs. they're a dying breed.

i will keep my ears open for some current stuff with LOTS 'O BASS!Â
