Places to donate milk

I have extra milk that I am interested in donating, but I don't know how to go about this.

Can anyone give me some resources for donating breastmilk?

Also, any personal experiences about donating milk either positive or not?

Thanks!

Milkshare.com

I donated to a local momma who recently adopted a preemie who got no prenatal care. She came and picked it up and offered to buy me replacement milk bags. Great experience!

i donated my milk to a friends friend. i used to work at a child care center and alot of the BFing moms knew i did this, and they said they wished someone could help them out. maybe you could put a notice out at the local daycares? there are lots of working moms out there who are struggling with pumping enough milk

i donate to the mother's milk bank of central ohio. it belongs to the human milk banking association of north america. i know they have collection sites all over ohio, so even if you're not in the same city as a milk bank, you still may be able to donate to one. i'd contact the one closest to you. if for some reason it doesn't work for you to donate to a hmbana location, as the pp mentioned, milkshare is a good resource for casual sharing.

good luck and you rock for sharing your precious, life giving, miraculous mama milk!

last time i dropped off a donation the ibclc said to me "the milk you're donating is like a living tissue, with all of its immunological properties. giving your milk is like donating an organ! thank you!"
donating my milk has been the most wonderful experience. i've got access to the ibclc's that work at the bank to answer any questions i have. they have a board covered with pictures and stories of babies whose lives were saved or at least avoided multiple hospital stays from mama milk.

The day I donated I felt so great! I joined milkshare and went to my local forum, contacted a mama that had posted there and we worked it out. It was wonderful and I hope to do it again when I have my freezer supply built up again.

I donated to a milk bank in San Jose. It is a member of groups above. (Beware for-profit groups). They mailed me a freezer and I mailed it back. Very easy. I needed a blood test and my ped had to sign off on papers that said LO was thriving. Some milk from milk banks go to preemies or those with severe disorders.

I also donated to an adoptive mother from a list at our local bf'ing store. She just picked up the milk when I had it.

Very positive.
