if you showed earlier with your second....

....did you get bigger overall or did it slow down at some point?

i'm just already freaking out about potential upcoming "you are so huge" comments.....i suppose i'm still traumatized from last time
post #2 of 22
I'm curious to find out, too. This time around, I am definitely showing sooner by a few weeks. I really hope to end up at around the same size as last time just cuz I don't think I can humanly stand being any bigger!

I showed right away, but I'm progressing about the same as w/ the first pregnancy. Though everything was obviously a little stretched out at the beginning (hence the early "showing"), it looks a bit more typical now at 26 weeks.

I had my largest overall weight gains with #1 and #3, but #5 is probably on track to be my largest belly.

There are so many factors involved in weight gain and belly size! Previous pregnancy is only one of them.

FWIW, my second was my largest baby (9lb2oz) so far, but I was pretty small with her, compared to the others. #4 was my second largest, and many people didn't realize I was pregnant until around 7 months. By 42 weeks, I was all belly!

After #1 I showed really early (like by 12-13 weeks), but then kind of stayed the same until around 22-24 weeks when the baby really starts growing. And i got way bigger with my second and third than the first, but then again my first was over a pound smaller at birth.

I find the size comments very amusing. I have always measured exactly for dates, so what makes me "so huge" or "so tiny"? I was actually told within a 15 minute timeframe by complete strangers that I was "really big" and my belly was "so little"...I mean really, how can you comment on that when you've never seen me before?! And what's wrong with just saying, "Wow you look great!"?

Um, yeah, you'll get size comments either way.

I think it just depends on u & ur baby. I gained 60 w/ DS, but I was loving some milkshakes & he was 9lbs 5 oz. I did start showing a little earlier but I don't think I'm gaining as much/quickly as last time. I'm 28 weeks and I've gained about 25lbs. A lot, but still think it's less than last time. My DH told me that this time I was just gaining in my belly. Don't worry too much about it. Good luck & hang in there

This. Its not automatic that you'll show faster or be bigger with subsequent babies. In my case, I DID get absolutely huge with DD2 vs. DD1, but that was due to having gestational diabetes, polyhydramnios, a 65-lb weight gain and an almost 10-lb baby, whereas DD1 was only 8lbs. I lost track of how many "Are you sure its not twins?!" comments I got. By the time I had her at 38 weeks, I think I measured ten weeks ahead of that? This pregnancy has been totally different, which I think is hilarious considering this time it IS twins! I'm actually smaller at this point than I was with DD2 and have only gained 23lbs. Not one twin comment yet. Up until about 20 weeks with all 3 pregnancies, I was roughly about the same size...the differences really didn't show up until after that point.

I started showing a few weeks earlier with my second. But I don't think I got any bigger with #2. In fact I gained about 10 lbs less with my second pregnancy. Now I'm pregnant with #3 and expect to pop out even earlier than #2 but haven't yet. There are so many factors!

My first DD i only gained like 10lbs; i didn't even buy larger clothes until the end and never did buy maternity clothes...with my second dd i started showing at about 4 months and needed mat clothes by 5 months...this pregnancy i started showing immediately, and was in mat clothes by (pants) month two

While I've been visibly pregnant earlier my end size has remained steady - unbelievably huge
post #11 of 22
I was bigger overall. My belly was sticking way out and most thought I was having twins, but I didn't.
I did. I gained alot more the second time and he was much bigger than my first too.

MY weight hasn't changed much this time around (i'm morbidly obese, so i'm expected to gain less) but my uterus is huge. doctor's concerned, in fact. i was huge with DD1 too, but it's happening much earlier this time around. the comments about twins, the assumptions that i'm ready to pop.. they started by 25 weeks.

Thanks for posting this question
I am nearly 9 weeks now and feel like my tummy popped out around week 6/7 (partially bloat as it is bigger by the end of the day, but definately bigger even in the morning). This is #2. I was desperate to show the first time around but didn't until around mid 2nd trimester.
This time I would be quite happy to not be showing until then but, already people are politely asking.....I guess it is either that or I have become fat pretty fast
So, I have been worrying just how big I am actually going to get. Good to know it may not start increasing for a while.
Thanks and good luck mama

I showed sooner, but didn't get much bigger overall the first and second trimester. I seemed to stay the same for many weeks.

The second time around, I was definitely bigger sooner AND bigger overall at the end. But I didn't weigh any more. In fact:

DD1: started off tiny, gained ~23 lbs, and had a 7lb11oz baby.
DD2: started off 10lbs heavier but only gained 12 lbs total, had a 6lb12oz baby.

More stretched out, I guess? FWIW, I worked out like a champ throughout my first pregnancy and was a total slouch the second time around due to SPD and m/s for 8 months. Go fig!

I weighed the same at the end of both of my pregnancies (give or take a pound or two) but definitely got bigger faster with #2. I was in maternity clothes by 9 weeks. I did carry them differently, my DD was much lower than DS. I always measured right on with DS, with DD I never measured any bigger than 35-36 weeks because of how low she was. She ended up being 4oz. heavier than him.

Thank you for this thread for I could have written this myself! I am 17 weeks tomorrow but I swear I look like I am 22 weeks or so in comparison with my first pregnancy. Funny though, I looked at my old records and I weighed the same at 16 weeks with DS as I do now at 16.5 weeks so guess I'm right on track with my body. I gained 60 lbs with DS but I started out skinny as I have always been a skinny girl. So, I give myself some wiggle room in weight gain since I started out skinny once again with this pregnancy. Thus far, total, I gained 14 lbs. But again, started out a bit underweight. But still, Im already getting the "look at that big belly" comments from friends. I got horrible comments from people from my first that I think meant well but did not sound well about how big I was. I was big, but I don't need to hear it!

baby #3 i went a week and half past when i did with baby #1 but was STILL smaller at that point than i was at 8 months with baby #1

however, i started showing with baby #3 around 8 weeks and with baby #1 at nearly 20

good question. this is baby number 2 for me, but my last pregnancy was 7 years ago! doesnt seem to matter because my body seems to remember it all too well. at 19 weeks, im the size i was at 6 months with my first! this is crazy. i dont even like to think about how big im going to be at the end.
