Tracheamalacia

Hi Moms and Dads,

I'm new to this website but am seeking help on my 14 months old conditions. He's recently been diagnosed with Tracheamalacia, originally we thought allergies. Basically he had bad reflux accompanied by a soft airway. He's very mucousy, catches colds easy, and is lately wheezing on inhale. My question is regarding the wheezing. Do little ones ever experiment with new sounds and repeat them even unconciously? The wheezing usually occurs when he's excited, but it's very scary....almost like he's slightly choking?? His Dr. thinks he's experimenting but he's so prone to respiratory disorder I don't think we should ignore it? Anything else similar on this thread, what did you discover?

My little one went through a phase of looking like he was gasping for air for short bursts, but never acted like he was in distress or anything like that....he was in fact just experimenting with this new found sound and quickly stopped doing it. That said, could the wheezing be associated with the tracealmalacia? Since it's loose already, when he gets excited and is breathing heavily or taking fast deep breaths it would make sense that a wheeze would occur. I would watch it closely and if he's wheezing at other times too then take him back to your dr, or if he has any signs of distress when he's doing it (blue lips, nails, etc.) go to the ER.
