Elderberry Concentrate

I just read that elderberry syrup helps in combatting colds/the flu, so I asked my mom to look for it when she went to the nutrition store. Well, she bought me a bottle, and paid $50 for a 500mL bottle, and on the label it says to use within 3 weeks of opening. That is awfully expensive and I wasn't intending to drink the whole thing in one go.

Do you think I could freeze it in an ice cube tray, and then defrost as needed? I can only afford to use this stuff if I can make if stretch. Or does it only work if you use it for an extended time which would mean the entire bottle would be gone within 3 weeks?

That seems awfully expensive to me! I have never paid over $20 for a bottle. Personally, I would try and take it back and order something online.

I have used elderberry during a cold, as well as given it to the kids as a preventative (while one of them was sick).

500 ml is a good sized bottle. The price is probably right. You could try to exchange it for a smaller bottle. We use Sambucus or Sambucul at $15(ish) for 120 ml. It usually has an expiration date several months away.

I am not sure that freezing it would be a good idea. I would be worried that some of the healing properties might be killed by the cold.

You could easlily call the company and ask them.
