DD#1 is just over 2.5 years old. Naptime was a struggle for about 6 months, and it seems like she's really wanting to give it up. She refuses - absolutely refuses - to go up to her room for naptime, throws a fit in fact. However, by 2 p.m., she is just a useless puddle of toddler until bedtime, and clearly still needs the nap.
We have had success (once) reading her to sleep, and (3 times) driving her to sleep, all right around 2 p.m.
So clearly, she still needs to nap.
Our approach has been, we're not going to push the nap, but we'll try to have some quiet time in the afternoons, just sitting and reading. I've found that she resists reading longer books w/out pictures (e.g. Pooh) because she knows it will put her to sleep, but if I just kind of ignore her resistance and snuggle her in, she settles pretty quickly.
But, this isn't really a sustainable approach, since I work full time and we have an infant daughter as well.
Suggestions? Do we just let her give up the nap? Or ignore it for a couple weeks and then try again? I tried to take her up to her room yesterday and it brought immediate screaming.
