Why can't I feed her mushrooms? - Page 2

most mushrooms are grown in wood chips, etc. if they are conventionally grown they can have gross stuff if grown in wood. most commercial mushrooms are not grown in feces.

Always cook mushrooms--they can be toxic if consumed raw. But otherwise, go for it! We're foodies so we grow our own, or get them from a local producer. But mushrooms are one of my 10 month-old's favorite foods.

Ugh, some of these are AWFUL! A cookie instead of nice melon? DD loved brocolli the most as a baby, and I remember her eating all my carrot ginger soup and pears out of my salad, at a kinda trendy restaurant while all the other toddlers ate buttered noodles, and getting some stares, but I was pleased as punch

Wow, really? That's crazy, but I could totally see it happening.
It's funny and sad what "we" think baby and kids food is supposed to be.

People can be weird

I got lots of comments at church about DS eating raw carrots, one lady actually went around telling people "Can you believe he's..."

She thought cookies or the cake would have made more sense (even though he's gluten and dairy free (which she knows))

I think some people just don't understand BLW and that food doesn't come from a jar.

my DH is allergic to mushrooms.

its a somewhat rare allergy, but that would be my first thought if i saw someone feeding a young child mushrooms. I would worry about whether or not that parent was aware of what severe allergic reactions they can cause.

Ftr no one else in his family is allergic to them. He has had them 3 times in his life and hada bad reaction every time, starting at age 6 when he swelled up after having some on his pizza.

Exact same issue with my sister. Nobody else in our family is allergic. At age 7, she had mushrooms for the first time, and had such a severe anaphylactic reaction that her left lung collapsed. She was in the hospital for weeks and week. I remember being scared because whenever I visited her she was in the oxygen tent. So that would be my big worry as well!!

Mine too! She also loves broccoli, papaya, avocado, pastas, tofu, You name it, she eats it. It freaks my mom out who just wants her to eat off a spoon and stop being so messy, but she will only eat off a spoon if I am feeding her off myplate or if it's soupy, like lentils or soups or beans.
