Anyone have their (vegan) Thanksgiving menu planned yet?

gbailey posted the non-veg question here. I thought it was a great idea... and I'd like to hear about your vegan Thanksgiving menu. It is Thanksgiving after all, not Turkey day.

I make a vegan loaf and also make it for Christmas. It is made with couscous, bread crumbs, walnuts, bell pepper, onion, tomato paste, Braggs, and spices.

For sides and dessert, I haven't decided... those are usually different every time. I'd like to make a vegan stuffing this year, if there is such a thing!

What are you making?

Last year, an appetizer of the sage crock 'cheese' from vegan vittles served with crackers and sliced apples was a hit with my family while we played a board game before dinner. I might add a pomegranate this year, they're fun.

Last year I made the pumpkin baked ziti from V'con with my (very much not vegan) friend's cranberry-pear sauce recipe, (which happens to be vegan http://seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com/59421.html#cutid1 ). We had that with chipotle mashed sweet potatoes, a beet and arugula salad with satsuma mandarins and spicy candied pecans, sparkling cider, and pumpkin oat cookies.

I think I may reprise most of that this year, because it was low-stress and awesome, and everyone loved it, even the picky kid. I'm contemplating an apple-spice cupcake with lemon-'cream cheese' icing for dessert, though I also kind of like to make the gingerbread cupcakes from VCTOTW as a sort of 'welcome to the holiday season' treat. And my husband really, really loves pie, so maybe I should make a pie instead.

WOW! That sounds delicious...would you be willing to share the recipe?

My children are going out of town with my In-Laws so DH and I will be kid free and picky eater free. I haven't decided what to cook. I may not cook at all!

I do not have my menu planed but am planning on getting a tofurkey loaf I also believe they have one from quina but dont quite know if it is vegan so will be researching that before I actually go out and buy it.


I also want to make vegan whip cream for my vegan pumpkin pie I am getting recipies. I just became a vegan this month on the 22nd and I was a vegetarian last year and even thought it isnt that different I have lost some of my t giving ideas. So this is going to be interesting this year. but I am sooo willing to learn. I will say that I truly love cooking know since I have to cook for myself and I cook for my inlaws on tuesdays so they get to try the new recipes I get. So I will be deffinetly be looking at this thread so that I can get ideas about t giving.

I'm doing the usual with a little change this year...In the past, I've always done chickpea gravy (from VWaV), mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potato casserole (veganized from America's Test Kitchen), cranberry sauce, rolls, and yummy vegan pecan pie for dessert.

This year, I'm considering trying a Tofurkey. I've never had one before, but I've heard they're pretty good. Last year, our co-op had Field Roast brand roasts. They were stuffed with a cranberry/hazelnut stuffing. If they are available this year, I'll probably opt for that over the Tofurkey. Also, for dessert this year I'm going to test a veganized version of a sweet potato/pecan upside-down cake. The recipe is from Southern Living. I may also test a veganized version of a pumpkin crisp, also from Southern Living.

It's definitely different from the non-vegan pecan pie, but it certainly satisfies my pecan pie desire. The recipe is from my natural foods co-op cookbook. It's not copyrighted, and they'd love to know that I'm sharing it!

6 cups pecans
2 cups maple syrup
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 TBS. arrowroot powder
1/4 cup tahini

Process all ingredients (except pecans) until well mixed. (My blender has always worked fine, but you could use a food processor.) Add pecans and process until they are coarsely chopped and mixed with other ingredients. Pour everything into a pie shell, and bake in a 350 degree oven until the filling is browned around the edges.

I'm Canadian, so we already did our thanksgiving! But we had a seitan roast with wild rice and walnut stuffing, pumpkin dinner rolls, and mashed yams, all with mushroom gravy... It was so yummy.

I have some "traditional" (for our family) recipes I make every year, I think this year it will be my tofu loaf thingy (food process extra firm, pressed tofu with garlic, nutritional yeast, and whatever herbs I feel like, put into a pan, pour some veg broth concentrate on top, bake for a while), orange-ginger cranberry sauce, and a cornbread sage stuffing. I'm also going to try these new ones:

I don't have my menu ready but I'm trying to decide between a Tofurky or Field Roast celebration roast; I need to place my order this weerk. (Although germin8's vegan loaf sounds good; I might go with something like that instead.)

I've had Field Roast sausage but never their celebration roast or a Tofurky. Anyone tried both of them and would be willing to give reviews? TIA

I am doing dinner with another mdc mama and this is the plan:

Main: Quorn loaf and veggie loaf
Sides: Potatoes/gravy, orange glazed green beans, (Stuffed Squash?)
Bread: Sweet potato corn bread
Dessert: Raspberry pie, pumpkin pie, ice cream

we've traditionally have done tofurkey. last year we did the field roast instead, and i prefer the tofurkey... I really like tofurkey, actually, but I am wheat free now, so I won't be having it this year.

Wow, this website has some amazing pictures and recipes.  The Thanksgiving recipes look interesting (not excited about mushroom though).  I may have to try some of these BEFORE Thanksgiving!   OOOOooooo and the Mexicali Black Bean Sliders look mouth-watering!

I'll be making:

 

-Either Dreena Burton's chickpea tart or Robin Robertson's seitan en croute, depending on how ambitious I feel, and how much my mom needs me to help her cook (omni stuff)

-Apple Cornbread stuffing (I plan on veganizing this one from The Pioneer Woman)

-Roasted Butternut Squash and Brussel Sprouts

-Cranberry sauce (literally just cranberries, sugar, and water, cooked down)

-Don't know what I'm making for dessert yet but it will be pumpkin-y

 

I like both Tofurkey and Field Roast, but I'm eating with a bunch of omnis and want to wow them with some amazing vegan home cookin' :)

*lol*  You won't believe what I was just thinking!  Seriously! ...of donating a loaf to those in need (locally, that is), like they do turkeys... but then, I came to the realization that nobody wants that... they're expecting turkey!  *haha*  The best I can do is mail you a recipe.  *lol*
