Looking big vs. baby size

Thread Starter
If the general consensus was that you looked "big" (had a big belly) did you have a big baby? If you looked small, was the baby actually "small"?

Was your weight gain on the smaller end for the smaller baby and larger end for the larger baby?

Thanks!

My babies were all within 8 oz of each other.

#1- I was very small. Gained recommended amount of weight. I had a 7 lb 2 oz baby
#2- I was kind of small but with lots of fluid so belly looked bigger. 6 lb 8 oz baby.
#3- I was big. Gained lots of weight and had lots of fluid. 6 lb 12 oz baby.

Everybody always tells me how small I look until maybe the last month (and by that point I don't that any pg woman looks "small" lol), even now with twins people keep saying I look so small. All my boys were around 9lbs.

ETA: Oh yeah, I gained 31-35lbs with all of them.

Baby one-gained 30-35lbs had a 7lb 1oz baby

baby two-gained 17-20lbs had a 6lb 14oz baby

Baby three-gained 30-35lbs had a 8lb 9oz baby

For me the amount of weight I gained really didn't have much bairring on how big baby was.

I looked pretty huge with all my babes

#1 gained 55 lbs, baby weighed 10 lbs
#2 gained 32 lbs, baby weighed 9lbs 3oz
#3 gained 36 lbs, baby weighed 9lbs 7 oz
#4 gained 30 lbs, baby weighed 10lbs 12 oz

I looked about the same with all of my babies...

#1- 10 lbs
#2 9lbs 4 oz
#3 7lbs 2oz

The last one surprised us...big time. Although my perintologist felt the baby was going to be between 6 and 7 pounds. I just didn't believe her. No one thought my first was going to be so big, so I took her measurements with a grain of salt...lol

#1 gained 50lbs baby boy born 37w1d at 7lbs 9oz
#2 gained 37lbs baby boy born 40 w at 9lbs 8oz
#3 so far I have gained 26lbs but people keep asking me if i am due at the end of the month and I still have 8 weeks to go. I am expecting her to be 9.5-10lbs maybe more but we will see

My belly always gets gigantic, i.e., people are asking me if I'm overdue when I'm only 24 weeks, or if I'm having triplets by 30 weeks, etc. I mean seriously GIGANTIC.

With #1, a boy, I gained 50 pounds...from 130 pounds to 180 on 5 feet 6 inches. baby was 7 pounds exactly.

With #2, a girl, I gained 40 pounds...again starting at 130 pounds to 170. she was 6 pounds 11 ounces.

I have no idea why I carry so big but have smallish-average sized babies. It's really strange. I wish I could be one of those mamas who carries small. It's so uncomfortable.

DD1- I gained 38lbs. had a good sized belly, though no one commented on how huge I was or anything....she was a tad over 8lbs.

DD2- I gained 58lbs. looked bigger than with dd1 and measured ahead, she was a tad less than 8lbs.

DS- I gained 55lbs, HUGE belly that stuck all out in front, people would gawk at my stomach, I either measured behind or right on, he was tad over 10lbs.

I got huge even though my weight gain wasn't bad. It had more to do with the ab separation, I'm sure of it. Ds was average size.

I'm sure fluid is an issue, and maybe also torso size? I haven't been PG yet, but I have a very short, narrow waist (I'm 5'2"). I can't even wear a really wide belt because the bottom of my ribcage and my hipbones are not that far apart... Wait, I have a measuring tape right here, LOL... 4.75" between the two.

I have a feeling my belly will stick waaaaaaaaaaaaay out in front because of this.

OTOH, I have very wide hips and am not a skinny person, so in that sense, I won't look as "disproportionate" as my 4'11", size 0 cousin did, even though she only gained like 20 lbs.

I think a lot (almost all) of how "big" a woman looks is perception and trompe l'oleil. Kind of like how I have 32G boobs but they don't look "that big" because they're more than balanced by my hips, but if I were smaller overall (especially my hips), I'd look like I had HUGEMONGOUS boobs.

#1 gained 20lbs-baby weighed 6lb 14oz. I was small my whole pregnancy. I carried her up high and out front. But I was 20 and it was my first pregnancy, i.e. no stretched out muscles, yet...

#2 gained 20lbs-baby weighed 7lbs 15oz. I was huge apparently, people started making "Any day now, huh?" type of comments to me 2 months before I was due. I carried him very low and wide.

#3 gained 40lbs!-baby weighed 8lbs 4oz. I gained a lot of weight this pregnancy and it was just straight up fat because I was eating like utter crap (think quarter pounders w/cheese at 11:30 pm for weeks, followed by an arby's curly fry addiction.) So I was overall big, the pregnant belly just help hide some of it.

I always measured right on for dates, but my belly shape looked different each pregnancy.

I have NO waist-my bottom rib is less than an inch from the top of my hip bone (I'm 5'4".) Seriously, I can't do any side bend type exercises because it feels like my bones are smashing together. But my pregnant belly always seems relatively normal. Now, if I ever concieve twins, that might be a different story!

With my first, I gained 30 lbs. and she weighed 8.10. I measured way ahead of schedule in terms of fundal height. I'm talking 38 weeks at 30 weeks. This time, I'm measuring a little small (17 weeks at 19 weeks etc.) so we'll have to see. I expect another big baby b/c that's the way we grow them in my family.

I get HUGE with every pregnancy (no matter what my starting what and weight gain) and have never had a baby bigger than 8lbs 9oz. I have a really short torso and there's just nowhere for baby to go but out, so I look enormous.
I think I gained about 35 lbs or maybe more with #1 and nobody ever told me I looked "huge". She was 8 lbs. 1 oz. I looked pretty huge with #3 but she was only 8 lbs. 4 oz. so slightly over my other two girls where I looked smaller. This time I'm measuring behind, so I am curious as to this baby's size.

I've gained between 60-65# with each pregnancy.
With #1, he was 8#1oz but I was induced for HBP around 39 weeks (they said 40 but I think they were wrong).
With #2, I went into labor naturally at 41 weeks and he was 9#10.
He was a BIG baby, not fat, but bigger and broader (I had shoulder dystocia with him)>
My stomach for him was enormous. Like scary so, the MWs knew he was measuring a little larger just by feeling him, but then again, I'm 5'7" and rather broad myself.

Also, I labored at home and before I left for the hospital I weigh #214.
I had him a few hours later and came home a few hours after that. I weighed myself again and was #194 (my normal weight is about 155).
So I lost 20# in less than 24 hours, I'm guessing that I had a lot of fluid in there.

With Liam I looked "huge" and he was a big baby (9 lbs 3 ozs) and I gained about 27 lbs. I am smallish though (5'1") and have a narrow and short torso, so there was nowhere for him to go but OUT. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...c&id=508100025 -- this was taken a month before I had Liam

With this baby so far I have gained 25 lbs (I'm 39 weeks tomorrow) and I am looking about the same size as I did with Liam, and my MW thinks (by palpating my uterus) that I am on track to have another "big" baby. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...7&id=508100025 --this was 2 weeks ago (at 37 weeks)

I think you can somewhat tell by looking at someone, but it also depends on how they carry and where they usually gain their weight.

Wow. I hope he's not absolutely huge but at 34 weeks I'm developing 'torpedo belly'. Btw, that's all baby. During my braxton hicks I can't feel any fat on the surface. I used to be so tiny my hips would stick out pretty far when I was on my back. Now they're totally gone.

I don't leave the house much but I've started getting quite a few people thinking I'm due like *now*. I made a guy really nervous pacing around the car dealership the other day, lol.

I looked huge with both of my pregnancies. (With my second, the sweet Italian grandmother across the street would ask me, "Only one baby in there?" ) I think I gained about 35-40 pounds with each.

My first baby was 7 pounds 14 ounces, my second was 9 pounds 10 ounces.
