What do I need?

I'm planning on having a UC if baby and I are healthy enough to do so.
I want to labor and birth in my nice warm garden tub lol.But as far as supplies all I have is the tub.I was wondering what else am I going to need for labor delivery and after birth (clamps, scissors, where would I find the ones the hospital uses).I'm 21 weeks today with my third child (a little boy) so I still have plenty of time to prepare.
Also,I'm planning on going to the hospital after the placenta is deliverd and I spend time with the new baby. But will my child get the same options as others born in a hospital (circ.vit k.the works) and what would be put on the birth certificate as the place of birth..and the attending physican.

Your birth kit will depend on you.

Here is a good site that will give you an idea of things you might need:
http://www.empoweredchildbirth.com/a.../supplies.html

My own personal birth kit:
- An inflatable pool that is deep but not long/wide, for laboring in.
- Olive oil, if I want perineal massage...however, this can be grabbed out of the cupboard and probably won't be collected with the rest of the things.
- Pads to put under me while laboring and especially while giving birth, to catch any fluids. (I actually am just using puppy pads that I have left over from training our second dog.)
- Waterproof sheets. Over the mattress goes a waterproof one, then a normal one, then another waterproof one, then one that I don't care if it gets ruined, in case I want to labor/birth/chill afterwards in the bed. If I get it messy, it can easily be stripped of the first layer, and I have another layer ready.
- A brand new pair of scissors, for cutting umbilical cords.
- 4 cord clamps. Since I'm having twins, I'll most likely have to clamp and cut the first baby, but we'll see. Bought four just in case I decide to clamp and cut the second for any reason.
- Placenta Out, in case I retain any of the placenta. Once the placenta is out, I will swallow a piece of it to reduce risk of hemorrhage.
- Lots of towels and receiving blankets to wipe up messes and wrap around babies.
- A wide, shallow bowl for catching the placenta.

I may add more to it or there may be more things on there when the day actually comes, but I feel pretty prepared with it. Almost everything can be bought at a normal store, but I did order the clamps, Placenta Out, and pool online.

Since you already have a tub, I won't bother giving you a link to the pool, but I got the Placenta Out and clamps here:
http://www.birthwithlove.com/categor...a+Out-TRILIGHT

I just got the 2 oz. bottle. It was $25 for everything, including shipping.

There are many other things you can buy on there that you might have on your birth kit list, and there are links to sites that sell birth supplies on the first link I gave you.

Have you looked into the issue of circumcision extensively? If you have any questions or need more information, head over to the The Case Against Circumcision forum. The ladies there are glad to help if needed.

Good luck!

I belive circumcision is a personal choice...one I made with my first born without research.During this pregnancy I have been doing a bit more research on it and am still leaning towards circumcision...but am still undecided.I just wanted to know if my son would still have that option if we went to the hospital.

Yup. It is. Your sons....

You will want lots of towels.
If you plan to cut the cord, some families use braided embroidery floss, or you could spend about 20 bucks and get forceps and a cordring http://www.midwiferysupplies.ca/prod...eed-cord-rings way nicer than a big plastic clip.

I wouldn't buy new scissors, I would just wash and sterilize mine, but you can buy instruments at http://www.midwifesupplies.com/

If you go to the hospital right after the birth you will be able to get vit K etc, but you may also have problems with the hospital staff. Make sure you know your rights. This forum has lots of stories to read that can give you more information.

Please check out the circumcision forum here at MDC, as well as this film by doctors opposing circumcision.

Mackenzie..there is no need to be rude...
If you read my post you would see that I'm still undecided...and after doing a little more research after it was suggested I found a story that really opened my eyes to this "simple procedure".If it wasn't your intention to be rude I apoligize for being snappy.

As far as having problems with hospital staff...I realize most hospitals look down on UC....but what types of problems could occur.
The one problem I encounterd after I had my daughter was they wanted to keep her longer then me(they said she may have been septic because she was born at home)...which I didn't let fly...it was their fault I had an accidental home birth in the first place.

Tnmommi, I don't think it was meant to be rude. I agree that circumcision is your son's choice, not getting it done will not harm his health, and if on the very off chance he does ever have a problem with it, or just wants the procedure done, it can easily be done when he's older. It is not less painful for babies, unfortunately.

However, this is my POV, and ultimately/unfortunately, it is up to the parent(s) to decide whether or not to circumcise their son. That's good that you're researching, so that you can make an informed decision.

Were you able to find the birth supplies you need? Have a list yet?

Well,I believe she could have worded it a diffrent way...maybe "Yes it is a personal choice, but I think when your son is old enough he should decide"
Which would have set better with me and prolly made me do a "hmmm". I'm not saying she is wrong...in fact I believe she makes a valid point. And after talking to my husband I'm leaning towards keeping my son intact,at least till hes old enough to make the decsion on his own. After reading one mommas horrible story,I'd never forgive myself if something happened to my son just because I thought his penis looked weird intact.

And I looked at the websites specifically for clamps (at this time) and I saw the cordring..but it said you need forceps..when I think forceps I think of a baby being pulled out of a birth canal, are these the same forceps or a smaller version made esp. for the cord rings.

You should just be able to purchase cord clamps. That'd be cheaper and easier. I have ordered from http://www.inhishands.com

I personally wouldn't go to the hospital right after having your baby. They could overreact and treat you poorly. If you do go there after you birth I would definitely play it up as being accidental. You could just schedule an appointment with a pediatrician sometime after you baby is born to have him/her seen if you want. And you could go in for a check yourself sometime after but you don't have to go in right away unless there were some complications with you or baby.

I def. wouldn't tell them I had a planned UC for the simple fact..I don't want to deal with peoples poor attitudes..which is why I'm really wondering about the cord...wouldn't they know it was planned it I cut and clamped the cord...seriously who keeps that stuff around their house..(besides midwives lol).I have no problems going to the hospital after the birth (and the placentas out) I just don't want to give birth in the hospital.Basically the only way my husband would even go along with a UC is if I went to the hospital afterwards...so I'm planning on him driving us there.I'm one of the few who like hospital food lol

I like hospital food too.

I didn't think about that. Maybe you could get some of that braided floss like some others use. That way they could just assume you had it around the house

LOL...I'm sure I have some string around here somewhere...although I read about Lotus Birth...where some people actually leave the cord and placenta attached to the baby until it falls off on its own(3-4days).Although I wouldn't want to do that...it seems leaving the placenta alone, until i got to the hospital would be fine...and they could clamp and cut there.

^ That's what I was going to suggest, and what I planned on doing when I thought I was just having one baby. It gets a bit more complicated with two. :3 Might leave the second baby uncut, unless I'm having problems expelling the placenta or something.

Since I'll have at least one baby clamped when I arrive at the hospital, I'll probably just say that I've read about twins coming fast, so I wanted to be prepared, just in case. Lol.

I thought about saying my mom was a midwife and just happened to be there lol...but i'll prolly just go with some household type of tieoff or leave it intact...the hospital is less then 10 minutes from me...faster if you take I24

Yeah you don't necessarily need to tie it off but it might be easier to get in the car if you do I'd think? LOL I don't know. But, you should be fine with your plan.

I may just get the things I need to tie and cut,and just play it by ear.Obviously cutting the cord would make moving around with the baby easier as your not having to carry a placenta as well.

While I understand that you should make whatever choice is most comfortable for you, I'm curious about why you want to go to the hospital after the birth rather than recovering at home?

Because my husband would probably have a heartattack if I didn't lol
No,but really I have no problems with hospitals,I just want the birth of my third child to be intimate,my insurance will not cover any type of birth other then a hospital birth which is why I want to do UC...I believe my labor and delivery will go fine...I'd just like to go to the hospital a little afterwords to make sure everything is ok with me (uterus wise) as I'm sure baby will be perfect.Plus at the hospital,I believe I'll get the rest I need to recover, and I really do like the food.(lol)
