What's your favorite prenatal/multi-vitamin for pregnancy?

I'm 10 weeks pregnant,
and still trying to find 'the right' vitamin to work with me.. not against me LOL!

I have major digestive issues, to the point of many healthy foods making me sick (long list of foods if your curious you may view it here: https://docs.google.com/document/edi...thkey=COm_v-EO ) but the jest of it is that many of my 'normal' foods that is healthy foods even in their natural state make me very ill (stomach cramps, diarrhea, weakness etc). We think it's caused by my inability to digest foods properly (which is caused by a overgrowth of yeast and bacteria in my intestines, which is being treated but may take a long time to fix).

Allllllllllllll this to say my midwife really wanted me on whole food vitamins, but my body is treating them like the 'real foods' they stand for and making me sick . Sooooo I need another 'good' vitamin option, I was trying 'Alive Vitamins for women' per my midwife's advice.

Sorry for the long details.. but please if you are on a good vitamin (preferably not whole food) can you share what they are?

This is the one I take... it's drinkable (a lemon-lime flavor), tastes great and doesn't make your stomach upset.

i love my Solgar prenatal nutrients. you do have to swallow 4 big pills, but it's never made me ill.

You tried though, I think that counts.

If you can't find a single vitamin that works you can combine what you need. Folate/Folic Acid, calcium, iron, vitamin d, ect. I take a prenatal and I still have to add iron and vitamin D anyway.

I usually recommend the cheapies - like the USP rated costco prenatal. It's nice if you can try a friend's first, so you don't have a whole bottle if they don't agree with you.
For something a little fancier, I like Rainbow Light's Once Prenatal. It has a nice coating to kill the B flavor and it slides down pretty easy for a big pill. It's got some herbs in it though, red rasp leaf, etc.

OT, but perhaps helpful - I really like natural acacia for bulking. It's much softer than a non-soluble fiber (think roughage, Metamucil) and is organic, and tasteless. I use Heather's Tummy Fiber even though I don't have irritable bowel. It helps my heartburn, of all things? And reduces cramping.

Thanks girls I will look into those..

Jane I was just at Costco today.. to bad I didn't check here first!

I'm seeing my midwife again this Saturday (assuming she doesn't have a birth anyway) so will check with her then on how to proceed but it's nice to have some name brands/kinds in mind at least.

Apricot do you know if the Rainbow light is whole food? I tried to look some other ones up and they were, but the one you listed doesn't say (does that mean it's not whole food then?).....

thanks for the info on Heather's IBS stuff I'm researching that now and very interested .

I just looked at my bottle - it says "whole food" so that's not going to work for you.

Okay thanks anyway.. will see what my midwife says on Saturday.

I'm getting excited about the 'Heather's Tummy Fiber' .. it sounds awesome for my health issues, sounds like just what I'm missing in my diet/supplement regimen.
