DS allergic to ALL grains, what do they have in common?

Except rice and sorgum. All other and I mean all, he gets a serious diaper rash from. We tried even the odd ones like teff, millet, buckwheat, quinoa, and even spelt. He has less of a reaction to gluten grains, but we are GF most of the time, so we avoid those. What is the connection?

I'd guess he has digestive issues with grains. Pancreatic support and/or enzymes, probiotics might help.

What about trying sprouted grains? What about soaking/fermenting grains? (google 'soaking grains nourishing traditions)

Either of those methods will break down the grains more to make them more easily digestable.

My son is the same way....no grains for a long time, including rice and sorghum for us though. I'm not sure if they all share a similiar protein or not.....maybe something like glaidin?

Or, what brands of those things have you tried? My son reacted to all of Bob's Red Mill products because of their cross contamination with nuts. So, potentially it might not be the grain itself, but something it is cross contaminated with.

Ds is only 15 months old, so perhaps he just isn't ready for grains yet. I haven't tried digestive enzymes for him, but I guess I could. He doesn't eat alot of raw food yet, but loves apples.

Most things I make are soaked for 24 hours, and he still reacts. He is really wanting to eat what we eat now, and I an so tired of only brown rice, and it doesn't sit that great with me. So as of late we are just meat and veggie eaters. Although DS does well with beans. (dairy and eggs are out) After being a vegetarian for 8 years, I feel like I am being bad by eating so much meat. I just cant make grains work.

He is fine with nuts, so I am pretty sure that isn't the issue. Although he hasn't tried peanuts yet, but I don;t think that is a problem.

Religiously we are encouraged to eat more grains and less meat, so when we cant digest them I feel like I am sinning or something.

Have you tried any raw, sprouted grains? Not sprouted breads but entirely raw. If he reacts to that then enzymes probably aren't going to help and it might be something deeper rooted and needs immune support. I'd try the raw grains and go from there!

I did try raw sprouted quinoa, and he reacted the worst of all to that.
