Wool Soaker - Merino okay?

I just found a few balls of Paton Merino 100% Wool in my stash.

Can I use it to make some wool soakers? I thought I read somewhere that merino wool may not be the best for soakers.

I prefer merino for soakers. It's soft and not itchy. I just about won't use anything else and haven't for 6 years now. Paton's is fine, I've used it before.

Just make sure it's not superwash and you'll be fine.

Make sure to knit at a tighter gauge than listed on the ball too- the denser the fabric the better ime

Merino felts wonderfully on it's own, so I've never knit it tighter. I like movement in my knits, though. You can do as Jenny from Tiny Birds has an option for in her pattern and knit the soaker bigger and felt it in your washer a bit before using it, though. When done that way, it's still soft and flexible.

Merino works WONDERFUL for diaper covers. I don't use anything else. I've made soakers, longies, shorties, etc out of it and it works great and is very soft. It just wouldn't be as good if it weren't 100%

All but one of my soakers are merino and they're great, so nice and soft too.
