Non-Dairy Milk for 12 MO?

I have to be away from DS2 for about 3 hours this evening. I have never missed a nursing session with him, so am a little concerned about what DH should give him while I am gone. He does eat solids, but I am concerned that even by nursing right before I leave and then having DH feed him solids while I am gone, he might want something more than water to drink. I have no frozen stash of BM.

I do not want to give him cow's milk, as we are currently cutting out all dairy for him to see if it is the cause of a rash.

I've heard not so great stuff about soy milk. I am thinking about coconut milk. Anyone know about allergy issues w/coconut milk and babes? Anything else I should give him instead?

Thanks for any insight.

I haven't tried coconut milk. we have a box of rice milk in the cupboard that was a just in case they need it while I'm gone thing. both my younger sisters were dairy allergic, and rice milk is what they had. I'm sure with you not there eating solids will most likely be enough for a three hour stretch. DD would sometimes go up to 5 hours without milk of any kind at about 12 months, she just didn't want it as much when I wasn't home. just when she got up from her nap.

I wouldn't introduce a new milk because of a 3 hour gap. A 12 month old who also eats solids will be fine.

I'd choose coconut milk if DH is sweating bullets.

Thanks for the replies. DH is sweating bullets, which is why I'd like to leave him with a "security blanket" of sorts. DS1 was super high needs and there is no way I could have left him for 3 hours at this age, so I think DH is still a little leery. DS2 is a totally different personality and I know he'll be fine. So I'm going to nurse right before I leave, DH will feed him solids and give water and I'll leave a bottle of coconut milk as a last resort if he gets super cranky before I get home.

I do think your LO should be FINE at that age with no milk during that period.

If your LO is thirsty, DH could always give him water.

Water should be fine.

This. I'm away from DD for 9 hours every day and I've stopped pumping for her- DH said daycare was giving her her milk as he was picking her up everyday. If he eats solids and can drink from a sippy, I'd say he'd be totally okay with food and water.
