Dentist wants xray at every check up for 4yo

I had DD in to the dentist today for her 1/2 year cleaning. Her last check up was 6 months ago and her first at this office so they did everything including x-rays). she had no cavities and I was told her teeth were perfect. I was shocked when they wanted to take x-rays again. I protested and was informed that the office policy was to take do x-rays 2/year to catch any cavities. They use low radiation digital x-ray equip. but still! It's seems overkill to me and I refused.

What's normal now days? I suggested that the dentist CHECK her teeth first and if he noticed anything suspicious THEN x-rays if necessary.

I'm considering switching offices again....

That doesn't sound out of the ordinary to me. You can always decline though, just have them done every other appointment, or so.

How did they react when you declined? Our dental office recommends a couple things that I don't think are necessary, and me declining was a non-issue. They didn't pressure me, they just moved on, and for me, that's the more important part.

We've only been to our new dental office once, not sure what they're going to recommend next time but I certainly don't want x-rays done every 6 months, I think it'll be a fairly rare thing for my kids.

Our insurance won't pay for them that freqently - I'd say no. I think we get bitewings once a year and full mouth xrays every 3 years.
