How long until....

Ok, so for this time where we have nothing in the house and we have a 3 day road trip coming up we broke out ds's. Since ds 4 yrs. old didn't have a ds to begin with, we picked him up a leapster (wish we would have had the didj for the others, it looks better than having just the games on ds, but anyway). DS has never had a video game before so we figured this would keep him busy. We got him 3 games. Creature create, star wars reading, and dinosaur dig. We also got the other 3 kids new games for theirs. So, while the others have all been playing one game for a while, ds is putting in one game, playing for 2 mintues, taking it out, putting in another for 2 minutes, taking it out, put in the other for 2 minutes, then started just playing some of the standard games on it. But he won't stay on one game for more than 2 or 3 minutes. Now, he keeps going back and forth between games, but I'm wondering if this was a complete waste of money. He says he likes the games but he won't actually play any one of them for more than a couple minutes at a time. Did we make a huge mistake, or do you think it will just take a little tiem for him to get used to it?

I think it'll just take a little time for him to get used to them. My DD is four and we just recently got her a Leapster Clickstart and she does the exact same thing with the games. She says she likes 'em and she keeps going back to them, but she only sticks with a single game for a few minutes at a time. I think its probably a combination of age, attention span and novelty. And as long as its keeping him busy and not whiny on such a loooooong trip, I wouldn't worry either way!! Safe travels!!!
