ants are everywhere. in our cupboards, closets, and closing in on us.
I have tried making a cinnamon boarder but have not been lucky.

Please give me some advice, they are driving me nuts.

I had largish black ants last summer. I bought some ant traps (3 different kindds!) and they eventually disappeared (a few weeks later).
Good luck!!

Boric acid powder from the dollar store.Mix a little with some jelly and put out for the ants to eat.

If you know the type of ant you can figure out if they want sweets or proteins.

Check out the diy pest control pages to pinpoint which type of ant. I had a variety, but the carpenter was my biggest issue.I fed them protien and sweet based baits. I like baits because they will take the poison back to the nest. I want to kill off the nest not just the workers out collecting food.

You can also place borax powder along the wood trim.

With anything you have to be cautious for pets and kids eating it. Some fresh mint leaves might keep them out of the cupbards/closets. I love chocolate mint!

I did see an herbal powder sold one time at walmart.I bought it but never got around to using it since I put out baits and borax. Just don't put te baits anywhere you plan to spray.

And not that you would want to go this far BUT I did go around the house drillings holes in the walls and dusted with a long term powder to kill off anything in the wall voids.

Hey, I have been there! I really think ants are amazing creatures, but when they take over your life? Not cute. Years ago my mom stumbled across this stuff online... OK Ant Killer. We had tried EVERYTHING to get rid of the buggers. Nothing worked... This stuff does. They don't really say what exactly it is, but it works by causing the ants to go crazy and kill each other. It ships from Malaysia in cute handmade envelopes. Tiny silver packets of what looks kinda like corn-meal... Maybe a teaspoon per packet? Anyway, you put it out and the next day... NO ANTS. It lasts for weeks, as it gets the whole colony. The $20 or so you spend will last about two years. At least it did in our case, and we had TONS of ants EVERYWHERE. They say it's non-toxic. Like I said, the don't really tell you what it is, but in my experience it has never caused any harm to pets or kids or anything. It's worth a shot.

WAIT! They do tell you what it is!!! Sorry.

The ant traps that I bought were borax ones. I felt better about having it in the littlt trap container than in (handmade) caps around the house as I was nervous about kids/pets getting into them. It seemed safer this way, albiet pricier...
