Peanut-free halloween treats?

Last year, there were several families who came trick-or-treating that asked me if we had any peanut-free treats.

My husband just reminded me of this, and I was wondering if the mom's here could offer me some suggestions? It really worries me to hand out treats, when I know so little about allergies, but I'd like to have something to give them if they come again this year.

I thought about getting some McDonald's coupons - is McD's somewhere you can eat if you have a peanut allergy? Or are they any safe candy treats I can buy?

There's a brand of candy called Yummy Earth, I've seen lollipops and gummis, and they're labelled peanut free and tree nut free. Our local Whole Foods carries them, I haven't seen them in our regular grocery store. I'm sure there are mainstream brands of things--maybe check the websites for other brands of lollipops? They seem more likely to be nut free than chocolates.

I was just coming back to add that the stores around me are CVS, Rite Aid, Walmart and 2 mainstream groceries. No health food stores or natural markets. (I wish we had a Whole Foods or Trader Joes )

Dum Dum Pops by Spangler are peanut free. They are also egg, tree nut, and wheat free. They are cheap and sold just about everywhere.

Or you can get a container of theme-shaped erasers, stickers, something like that.

This is what I was hoping to find, but CVS was totally wiped out this morning! They are almost completely turned over to Christmas already!!!

Some ideas for you:

Small boxes of raisins, fruit chewies/snacks, snack packs (oreos, chips ahoy, teddie grahams), tootsie products like tootsie rolls, tootsie pops, dots, skittles, dum dums (mentioned above)

If none of those are choices for you, and you need to look around, skip past items with chocolate. Usually candy made with chocolate, that you need individually wrapped and meant for halloween, is going to have a problem.

Items that are more like skittles, or wonka type stuff, like bottle caps, will have a better chance of not only being peanut free, but also something that everyone will like..... so it is like a two-fer..... candy for trick-or-treaters that is also peanut free. Saves you some money.

And, check the aisles that sell small snack packs that you would get to put in a lunch. There are a lot of choices in that type of department. It is just kind of thinking past the notion that it has to be candy. Something sweet/snacky can also work just as well.

Can't help cuz I'm in canada and we seem to have totally different candy and different ingredients, etc.

However, as a parent of allergic kids, thank you for the extra effort to find candy that kids with allergies can eat!!
