Question about Graco baby "bucket" seat

With my first son we just used a Roundabout from the start, but a friend was selling her Graco baby carseat for cheap so I thought we'd try it. I was surprised to find out that the carseat ONLY attaches at the seatbelt. The Roundabout had a tether so you could tie it down on the other end as well. Won't the Britax flop back in the case of an accident?

Yes, the Snugride will move towards the back of the vehicle seat in an accident. It's called cocooning, and it's how that seat works. The Britax seat works differently. Both are very safe, just different.

P.S. Newborns almost never fit correctly in Britax seats, so the Snugride is a good choice if you trust your friend with your son's life (and also trust that she is knowledgeable about the care and feeding of carseats).

Also, Britax is the only manuf that I know of that allows RFing tethering so it's actually standard with most seats that they only attach at the belt for RFing.

Thank you! I had no idea. My first child was really big so he seemed okay in the Roundabout -- plus I didn't know any better.

And my friend is VERY reliable and carseat-aware. It came in perfect shape with the manual and all parts, and I do trust her. It doesn't expire for three more years.

.
For rearfacing, the shoulder slots must be at or below the child's shoulder. Britax convertibles have very high bottom slots, so thats why most newborns dont fit. My ds was still to short when I put him in one at 15months old (needed to grow 1/2" in the torso before he would be tall enough!). Most kids wont fit until 6months or so, even if they are huge at birth.

I really don't remember where the slots were with my son when he was a newborn, but I can tell you he was a big baby and he's always had a freakishly long torso. But in any case I know more now.
