+ OPK, no temp rise. Possible to have a 2nd surge?

I am breastfeeding my little guy who is now 22 1/2 months old. He receives 3 full meals w/ snacks a day, so nursing is really just what he does as he wants comfort or an extra snack. We *are* still night nursing quite a bit, though.

I got my first pp AF in late August, but didn't O until early October, when I got my next AF just 8 days later. BTW, neither my monitor nor my OPK's picked up the surge--I only knew because my temps went up.

I finally saw my peak reading, as well as, a positive (smilie) OPK on the day I'd expect to see one!

I had two days of peak/positive days on Wednesday and Thursday. Today is Saturday and my monitor reads "high," my opk is negative and my temps are still well below my cover line.

I have never breastfed this long but when I have breastfed, it never put off my fertility. And as much as I try to deny my age being a factor, I'm starting to wonder if it really is?

I've read online of women who had 2nd surges, after failing to O after the first peak. And they did indeed finally O, after the 2nd surge.

Anyone have experience with this? Or is this "cycle" over for us and we just have to wait around now for AF to decide when to arrive?

I found using OPKs while nursing especially if your cycles haven't been back that long to be confusing. What is your CM like? If it's EWCM I'd keep on BDing.
You can certainly get a surge and not ovulation. OPKs just detect the hormone that can trigger ovulation right before not it doesn't by any means guarentee you will ovulate then or during that cycle. I had much better luck going by CM while nursing to TTC.

All last week, I had an abundance of EWCM but it's been very hit or miss though the last couple of days.

I'm really hoping I'll have another surge soon this cycle or that AF will come on soon.

I also wonder if I'll have to completely night-wean to conceive?

I know nothing about how breast feeding effects fertility. But, yes, you can gear up to ovulate and not ovulate. That's why fertility books say that temping is the only sure way to know that you actually did ovulate.
