Citric Acid in applesauce rather than lemon juice?

I absolutely hate the taste of purchased lemon juice and my source of free lemons passed away, anyone know if I can use citric acid instead in my canned applesauce?

Yes - I use it for canning tomatoes.

I don't like purchased lemon juice either so I buy lemons when they are in season and on sale. The juice is frozen in ice cube trays and the peel gets candied

Yup. You'll have to experiment with the ratio, but I think it's like 1/4 tsp citric acid (per quart?) or so.

I just do bottled since I live in a cold climate (no lemon trees for hundreds, if not thousands of miles), and don't have the means to test batches of home-made lemon juice for the 5+% acidity levels.
