blankets, blankets, blankets

Any opinions on size/weight needed for a winter baby? I have, left over from ds:

4 30x30 useless sized flannel receiving blankets
4 30x45 flannel receiving blankets
2 45x45 cotten-ish blankets
1 45x45 flannel blanket.

I'm in the middle of sewing up blankets for the new baby, but I'm wondering if I should go to the trouble of making them nice and thick, since it will be january, or just going with the large squares of flannel for swaddling.

Even in winter, I love muslin for swaddling. I like a 45X45 size as the smallest though...

If you are going to be outside, fleece is always handy over whatever they are already in.
