Queer Conceptions--November - Page 3

Thanks for all the love and support folks!! I really appreciate it. I told my supervisor at work, because I am just not able to really be in the world consistently right now, so she said I can take a combo of sick time and work-at-home time for the rest of the week and if I want more I just need to fill out the paperwork. So, I am at home with movies. Which leads me to my next question...

Can I ask my own totally non-TTC-related QOTD? If you knew someone who was planning on lots of time in bed and needed some movies that are REALLY engrossing to keep her occupied, what would you recommend? I love dumb action and sci-fi stuff, like we just watched all the X-Men movies yesterday and it was PERFECT. I also love dumb romantic comedies. (I'm much smarter than this I promise, I just need really mindless JUNK right now!) Thanks ladies, I will keep you posted.

I'm a bit concerned about me still not starting and the fact that my chart says I haven't ovulated. We shall see how it goes. I'm letting dp take charge on when it's my day to insem and whatnot and I'm going to ask at my doctors appointment on the 15th what they think my chart is saying. It's all so new to me...

millet: I really like Juno, little miss sunshine, the whale rider ad my personal favorite is if you has netflix to just put on something random and see how it goes! We are firm Lovers of netflix. Bones is a great tv series! That will suck you right in!

Millet~ I got one word for you: BUFFY! If you haven't seen them, or even if you have, start with Season One of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then just keep watching for the next month. They would be perfect for you right now~ they are so smart and funny and occasionally scary, and sometimes lesbionic and there are LOTS of them which is just what you need. If you've seen them, try Joss Whedon's other excellent series Firefly (and the movie Serenity, but don't watch that 'til you've seen the season). I also agree that Bones is good, DP and I started watching them because they starred Angel, from Buffy

I wish you the best of luck passing this nightmarish week. I'm glad you have such an understanding boss.

thanks for the welcomes everyone

millet: it isn't action/sci-fi at all...but i can get completely sucked into the gilmore girls. my dp and i have been watching a ton of episodes during this tww, and it is a fantastic distraction.

miss scarlett: thanks for adding me to waiting to know--i'm just a few days ahead of you at 7dpo.

seraf: wow, it is super brave to be simultaneously pregnant. i plan on being a handful while pregnant and need my dp to be her normal, only somewhat moody, self. and, i know many, many vegan babies/toddlers who are now bigger kids who love m--eat!

max: my dp is currently recovering from foot surgery and her expected time on crutches was estimated to be 6 months! BUT she has been up and walking around for two weeks--and her surgery was only 2 months ago. i hope you heal quickly and well.

mizyellow: i'm hoping to wait until at least next tuesday before testing, which will be 14dpo. hypothetically, i'd like to never test at all and just let the time af is due come and go...we'll see. in the past i've caved around 10dpo. what about you? what's your plan?

this is a very busy place. hello to anyone else i missed.

afm: 7dpo and the only "symptom" i've had was horrific gas and bloating around 5/6 dpo. seems much more likely to be food-related, but it's really unusual for me to have stomach issues. is anyone else in the tww having symptoms? those of you who are preganant or have been in the past--did you notice anything different this early in the tww? i'm headed to campus for the evening. -e

So, let’s see. We’ve got
Rainbow on 7
Kgul on 6
Scarlet on 5
And me on 4 DPO.

Anyone want to take 3, 2, or 1? MizYellow? It’s going to be a good run, I can tell!

I am the worst person ever for movies, but I like to watch the really low-rated gay ones on netflix. They're always bad, but I can't help myself.

milletpuff - i have everything crossed that your wee bean sticks good and tight to the pole! come on bean!

mindless movies - galaxy quest, shrek, cars, the incredibles, toy story (1-3), the harry potter series...i'll dig through our dvd drawer and see what else would be good.

afu - we are cycling almost together, which in 7 years of living under the same roof has never happened! which means we are both currently ovulating/or about to ovulate. lol!

RainbowMama~ I love the fact that you're already planning on being a handful. I'm planning on NOT being a handful so that later on I can say "Remember when I wasn't a handful? You owe me!" For what it's worth, my success cycle, I had zero 'symptoms'. Usually the tww was full of weird cramps and twinges, but I felt absolutely nothing until I had implantation cramps and crazy amounts of lotiony cm around day 12. Still, I'm sure your bloat was food, and we'll be celebrating for you soon!

Isa~ I love the cheezy gay movies on Netflix too. And I loved Noah's Arc, though it was rather cheezy too. I watched all of them on demand one weekend while DP was at a conference.

Indigo~ Galaxy Quest is awesome! One of my faves. I gave it and 'Trekkies' to my mom for her birthday one year.

Rainbow- Thanks for the hopeful thought of being up and around sooner than expected. I really appreciate it!

SmilingSara- I am glad you are taking care of yourself and taking time off work. I love dry, witty, and sarcastic movies. These are some of my favorite tv series Bones is great, Dexter, The Office, Weeds, and Firefly. (Library, I could never get in to Buffy but maybe now I'll give it another try.) As far as movies I have been watching a lot of crazy foreign films on Netflix these days because reading the subtitles helps put me to sleep. If you want to see a cute foreign film check out French Twist. I love kids movies, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Up are all great.

AFM- I think the numbing shot from the hospital is starting to wear off and I'm glad to say the percocet is doing a fine job.

Isa: I haven't gotten cross hairs on FF yet but I think either DPO 1. I am predicting several BFPs!

Millet: Dexter, dexter dexter. And more dexter. It will get you through the rest of the week. Best show ever.

Max: Ahhh percocet. Not a terrible thing to have in your corner after surgery. Just sayin!

AFM: waiting. patiently

Cheesy action!!! Tomb raider, Aliens (ok, that's great science fiction), the Terminator! Indiana Jones, Romancing the Stone. It took me a couple of tries to get into buffy. I second Bones, Angel and Dexter. The old ladies at work like MASH. Doesn't really fit your request, but I'll throw it out there because I find it distracting. Romantic comedies, I personally love 50 first dates, charlies angles (wait, that one may be in the wrong category, but Drew Barrymore made me think of it), about a boy, sweet home alabama, harry potter (ok, now I'm just going through our DVDs), futurama, simpsons, my big fat greek wedding, true lies, Mr and Mrs Smith. Anything with Arnold or Angelina really. There are a lot of great kids movies. Surfs up, kung fu panda, wall-e, the incredibles, charlie and the chocolate factory. My kids like miyazaki films, like my neighbor totoro, spirited away, ponyo, nausicaa and the valley of the wind. I can't stand them. But you may find them pleasant.

Library, recipe?

Rainbow, I don't plan on being a handful, it just turns out that way sometimes. I don't really think we'll get pregnant the same week, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

I am not sustaining higher temps and it is frustrating me. My temp jumped super high and now it is right around baseline again. FF won't give me an O day. What is going on? This is not helping my "don't obsess" attitude.
Hope you guys are all having a great one!
Max~ Glad to hear you're doing well, still, even though the shot has worn off. And I do preach the gospel of Buffy. Give her another chance to change your life!! Dexter's good too, though I've found that the first season was the best. I also really loved Six Feet Under, though I'm not sure a series contemplating death and life is exactly what you need at this point. Though it is really good... Fantastic Mr. Fox is excellent. Have you seen the Wallace and Grommet movies? The Wrong Trousers and Curse of the Were-Rabbit, etc? Hilarious!

MizYellow~ Everything's crossed for you, for sure. I'm eager to watch our wave of BFPs.

Millet~ How are you? Have you received Buffy in your life?

Not much news here. The PE teacher at school's wife is starting another 2ww too. He stopped by to tell me about it, so I'm wishing him babydust. And I have to say, I've never discussed menstrual cycles with a colleague, much less a male one. But I guess there's a first time for everything.
Seraf~ Cross-post! I'll get the recipe tonight and post it for you then. I have to say that I don't love ALL of Miyazaki's films, but I love Spirited Away and was going to suggest it too.

Yellow~ The temp charts can and will drive you nuts. As long as it doesn't go below your coverline, don't worry about it. Ugly charts often lead to bfps!
millet, my favorite "feel good" movies are:

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead
First Wives Club
A League of Their Own

i really hope you can keep distracted and my fingers are still firmly crossed that the outcome of all of this will be wonderful. Thinking of you.

Library-- IT'S THE WRONG TROUSERS GROMMIT!!!!

Mizyellow-- Don't fret dear (yeah right) I second Library in that ugly charts sometimes equal magic. Do you want to link to your chart so we can all stalk it with you? Also, I have found that many basal body thermometers are pretty sporadic. I had to get a new one for this cycle (the dog at my old one) and I'm less than confident in it. There are so many variables, chin up!

Rainbow-- The symptoms I had the first time with BFP were pretty drastic, and not until about CD 10 or so. I had some super crazy food cravings/aversions, and BB tenderness. Nothing before that. All of the rest of the months I had crazy symptoms and BFNs. It's a rough game and a long two weeks! Hoping you get to graduate to the pregnant forum soon!

Seraf-- Y'all get the couple of the year award if you both get preggo the same week and go nine months without killing each other. That is dedication! It actually wouldnt be bad....if DP and I didn't own our business and could afford to both be off at the same time I think we would have considered it.

Millet-- We just Netflixed Sherlock Holmes and it was great. I tend to like more complicated movies, as opposed to chick flicks, but I did enjoy The Proposal and It's Complicated. The Thomas Crown Affair is one of my all time favs. I recently watched Spy Game with Brad Pitt & Robert Redford on Netflix instant. Super good. What about the Lara Croft ones? As far as TV series, (I can't really believe no one on this queer board has mentioned it, and I'm a little reluctant to be the first but, uh, hello, XENA!!!!! I also adore The West Wing, and just bought the whole series of Get Smart (my fav show as a kid) on DVD and they are hysterical and awesomesauce. I suppose I'm going to have to break down and let Buffy into my heart...

AFM-- I don't feel a thing. Temps cruising right along. Mom left this morning. DP is driving me batty. Still waiting.... just hangin with my sheep peeps.

Oh, and here's the Cream of Green Chili Soup recipe. I feel a little guilty posting it after our dairy discussion recently, but here it is anyway. Depending on how hot you want it you can use mild, medium, or hot chilis. Also, if you want to use fresh chilis, it's about two cups chopped. Enjoy!

Cream Of Green Chili Soup

1 medium-large yellow onion (chopped)
3 cloves garlic (minced)
1 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
3 small cans chopped green chili (feel free to add more)
1 jalepeno (chopped) (optional)
1/3 cup white wine
3 cups heavy cream
3 cups half and half
1 ½ cups sour cream
salt & pepper

In a heavy bottomed soup pot, sauté onions, garlic, and jalepeno in olive oil and butter until soft. Add green chilis and continue to sauté until some browning occurs. Add wine and scrape up browned bits with a wooden spoon. Continue cooking until the wine reduced to almost dry. Add heavy cream and half and half. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low for approx 45 minutes. Stir in sour cream until melted. Simmer 15 more minutes. Add salt and pepper.

Transfer to blender and puree (in batches if necessary) until smooth. Serve warm.

OMG thank you all so much for the fabulous recs!! A lot of them I have been watching already (just finished the last Dexter that's avail on DVD! and I love Bones) but there are PLENTY to keep me busy for the next, oh, 29 hours. THANKS! Library - I actually loved Buffy the first time around but didn't have a TV, so last week I tried to Nexflix the first season and I was not into it at all. I was wondering if it was one of those things that doesn't age well, or if it was just going to take a while to get back into it. I will defs give it another try.

Mizyellow, I have had that happen quite a few times. FF wont' give you crosshairs till you have 3 temps above the coverline. I would sometimes try to fake it out and put fake higher temps in for the two next days to see what happens.

Hi Everyone,

Scarlett: Nice to see your sheep again! Keep staying high, temps!

Mizyellow: Temps can be so frustrating. Do you have a chart we can look at?

Max: I'm glad that the percocet is working.

Milletpuff: No movie recommendations, but my wife and I did find hulu to be a useful distraction after last cycle's possible chemical. I have everything crossed that you get good news tomorrow!

Rainbowvalleymama: I didn't have any dramatic symptoms the cycle I was pregnant. Honestly, I've had much more interesting symptoms when I wasn't pregnant!

Smilingsara: I'm sorry that your chart is being difficult. Hopefully next cycle it will be perfect and easy to read.

AFM: I have an advice question. This cycle I started taking vitex and a B complex. It does seem to be working to lengthen my luteal phase--today is 14dpo, and AF just arrived at lunchtime (although I was spotting a bit yesterday evening and this morning). I'm trying to decide what to do with vitex next cycle (also a non-insem cycle). Should I take the vitex all cycle again? Should I listen to my acupuncturist and only take the vitex in the second half of the cycle? Since vitex is generally not recommended during pregnancy, should I stop taking the vitex and just plan to take prometrium the next time I insem? I had really liked the idea of avoiding prometrium (I'm not a big fan of the idea of synthetic hormones), but we worry that if I take vitex until a bfp and then stop, my progesterone level might go down suddenly leading to another miscarriage. Any advice or things to think about? Thanks!
