If you don't already know this, it's a must know when learning multiplication memorizing. It works only for the nines. Here is a quick video.

And here's a related system that works for the upper (5, 6, 7, 8 and 9) timestables:

I never thought to look for multiplication on you tube.

Here is one that I came across a while back..maybe easier for little kids

Cool. I knew the hand with the nines, but not the others. However, my favorite "9" trick is that the answer will add to nine. So, 9x2=18 and 1+8=9. You can also just take whatever you are multiplying 9 with and subtract by one, then ask your self what needs to be added to that to make 9. So, 9x6= well 6-1 is 5 and 5+4 is nine so the answer is 54.

Oh that's great with the nines also Amy. I figured most folks knew this but I run in to people all the time (even my kids math tutor) that had never heard of this so I thought I'd share. Moominmamma, I'm off to explore what you wrote so I can teach this to my kids. Thanks.

Oddly enough, we were just discussing multiplying 9s with DS this morning. I showed him this old clip from Square One TV. I miss that show!

I learned that over 30 years ago and still use it on occasion today.

I love all of these tricks.

Actually, you never have to multiply by 9.

9x=10x-x or, to avoid doing carrying in the single digits (can't help it when you get to larger numbers) 9x=10(x-1)+(10-x)
