Toddler Bleeding from Mouth, scratching head

I once read here that if a toddler was seriously fighting teeth brushing, there was probably a good reason for it. One morning we woke up to find blood stains on our toddler's bed (19 months old) where her mouth was when she fell asleep. We looked inside her mouth and found canker sores. The doctor told us to stay away from acidic food (I had been offering mostly acidic foods, no wonder she wasn't eating) and apply Milanta to the mouth.

I asked about vitamin deficiencies and he said that it might mean nothing unless more appear. So now she is bleeding again from what seems like a little cut. At the corner of her mouth seems to have some skin protruding; it seems like she is biting herself.

Another issue, she started scratching her head around 12 months and we were told to stop using any kind of shampoo except for Selsen Blue every once in a while. I was told to only rinse with warm water most days. But she continues to scratch and even has scabs on her head.

I am just wondering if this can all be related but the doctor said no.

I will add that we are night weaning because DD had decay on her two front teeth. Yes, I know that night-time breastfeeding does not cause decay but my husband and I decided to night wean.

I disagree that nighttime nursing can cause cavities. It shouldn't but sadly it can depending on the structure of the mouth.

I'd say what you are seeing is related, but not in a linear way. For me it all relates in terms of a pattern of imbalance. I'd not say there's one, clear and easy fix. However I do think that there are several things you could do to improve things. I'm wondering about yeast. With the canker sores I'm also thinking there could be an acid/alkaline imbalance.

Do you have the ability to see a holistic practitioner in your area for support?

Yeast was what I was thinking about as well. Doctors have looked in her mouth, we currently see a holistic practitioner, and none have diagnosed yeast infections. You mean thrush, right. The mylanta seems to have worked so it might be an acid/alkaline imbalance.

In fact, she has always had white patch on her tongue which I pointed out. They said that it was not thrush because they couldn't find it anywhere else.
