as for the food thing, yeah my mom does do that stuff. it is very weird. if it is one of the"specialty" items and you mess with it she gets pissed. but if i make, oh i don't know, fancy mashed potatoes or some cool veggie side dish she will eat it and say how good it is. but don't mess with her stuffing, sweet potatoes, or apple pie. all of which i have messed with and we just eat it at my house. my dd even noticed my mom is like that and we talked about it just the other day. i told her "honey, if you ever get into cooking and tweek any of my recipes... i will eat them up. cuz that is what cooking is, it is taking something and working with it and making something new."

we got another offer on the house! a back up offer if this sale doesn't go thru. when dh sent me the email i was confused i thought the bank wanted us to ask for more money. lol (since it is a short sale). things seems to be moving on well. i hope the new family can be in before T-day, but that might be pushing it.

anywho we are celebrating day of the dead today. going to get out the pix of my grandparents, dh's dad and his grandma. make a nice dinner and set a place at the table for them. the kids are going to decorate skulls and i need to go out and buy more merigolds.

ok must get on with the day.

That's what I was thinking... that someone in the neighborhood might know someone that was interested in moving? Especially if you and they don't hang at the same places then a flyer in their mailbox might be a great "door" into a brand new market! Something will work... hang in there!

Historical Thanksgiving- Spirituality isn't the right forum for a detailed discussion, but Thanksgiving and Columbus Day both tend to suffer from a certain tension between the modern myths and the historical realities of "cultural contact". It's complicated. On the one hand, who can argue with a day of thanksgiving (or reunification, since Lincoln pushed Thanksgiving as a secular/American holiday in the hopes of reconciliation/reunification following the Civil War)? On the other, is it right to celebrate a moment in history that glorifies manifest destiny and colonial/imperial expansion at the cost of native peoples? There was a wonderful Buffy epiosode that "delved" into the complications and gave rise to some really great quotes!

Personally I take the holiday at face value and work for native rights year round. But I do have activist friends who wouldn't be caught dead celebrating Tday or Columbus Day.

This makes sense to me, re: Colombus Day, but I'm just not getting the connection re: Thanksgiving. And why isn't our forum the place to mention this? We mention all sorts of things that are not Pagan/Spirituality related, just by virtue of us being a cyber community I'm confused.

Basically because Spirituality has a "no debate" guideline and a discussion about whether something is or is not a good thing is probably going to have a problem with:

we will be active in discouraging an individual from posting for the purpose of disagreement, with no interest in practicing the faith or belief in discussion, or to prove a faith or a belief to be wrong, misguided, or not based on fact.

time share- I called and they do have a kitchenette thing, but you have to bring your own plates/silver ware/kitchen stuff. Thanks for reminding me to check... I'll still bring the crock pot and rice cooker, but wont need to find an electric frying pan thingie. I was able to convince my mom to babysit the chickens... and we'll put the cat in a kennel (my mom flat out refused to have anything to do with a cat). DH greenlighted a trip to IKEA so DoK... maybe we can meet over meatballs? I'm totally throwing gf/cf to the wind in favor of IKEA meatballs and cinnamon rolls. I know I'll pay dearly for the indulgence, but it's not like I'll get another chance any time soon!

I plugged in our hepa/uv filter today... it feels like winter is really here now. It seemed to make a big difference last year (the UV bit) but we didn't get it till nearly spring so maybe it was the changing season that made more impact. I dunno. We run hepa filters a lot due to DH's allergies, but this was our first UV filter. Finger's crossed we can stay healthy!

Speaking of... gotta go back into town. The window condensation is causing mold/mildew growth and I need to get both window film and tea tree oil (I pour some into the window track to keep the mold down, and the film helps insulate the window and prevent the problem in the first place)

Clay- Hmm, might have to give the hepa filter a try. My allergies have been awful! I also have a rock salt lamp/candle on my wishlist.

I could use some healing vibes this way, mamas. I have asthmatic bronchitis and am home sick in bed. I feel like I've been punched in the stomach multiple times in a row. Went to the Dr yesterday and am on an antibiotic, a cough syrup and new inhaler. If I'm not better by tomorrow, I go on a short course of steroids. I'm supposed to work with my client tomorrow. (I'm a DSP) We have no relief staff to cover for me, but I'm not supposed to work when sick....

for both you and Clay's family. I have had bronchitis on and off my whole life. I am uber familiar with sleeping half-upright on a billion pillows, living on abx, slugging guaifenesin and triaminic like it's apple juice. Ugh. I hope you get better soon, mama.

The job was his the minute he stpped in the door apparently he has a very good way with ppl and he has the right experiencee... and it didn't hurt that they needed someone asap hehehe. My thoughts on the day care license are that it would prevent us from having to go through this again... if we had a mortgage we'd have been in dire straights with just the single income gone!

Yes, this. DH & I are of the same school of thought... same with valentines and such. We would prefer to do little spontaneous things for each other and express love all the time instead of spending stupid amounts of $ on one day to pad hallmarks bank acct

Yes, I love tweaking recipes... great new things are created that way, but that doesn't mean the old ones aren't still enjoyed sometimes. Grats on the offerS!
