Bits and Pieces: Highs and Lows

So much has happened with our family (and open adoptions) recently. Some great, some ok, some really sad.

The Highs:
  • My DS's older bio sister is in town for a visit with her parents. We've seen them a few times and have had a terrific time.
  • We had a great visit with his big sister, little sister (who lives near us,) bio mom, grandmother and younger half-sister. Things went much better than expected and overall it was a wonderful experience. And the kids got to ride a carousel and a train which is always a plus.
  • DS's bio grandmother was wonderful with Polliwog and really tried to include her with the "family" group. I was worried about that and it turned out nicely.

The OK:
  • Polliwog's adoption finalization is going to take a bit longer than we had expected. The last person who needs to process the forms before the Clerk of the Court stamps them is covering for an absent coworker and it's going to take a bit of time to catch up. Not a huge deal, though. Everything should finalize by the end of the month.

The Sad:
  • Polliwog's birth parents had premature twins recently. From what I'm told the babies aren't doing well. I'm hoping to learn more this week. They will be in DSS custody and are looking for family to take the babies when/if they are released. My doing it would mean big changes for our family. Have to weigh this one VERY carefully.
  • The above means that I need to put Polliwog's post adoption visits with her birth father on hold. Things have gone in a direction that I didn't expect and that makes me really sad.

Well, I'm glad you had a great visit with your DS's bio-family.

I'm sorry to hear about the twins.

Still waiting for word that the adoption is final. But, as long as it finalizes by the end of the year, it will be fine.

No new news about the babies. As soon as Polliwog's adoption is final, I'll be able to contact the other county's DSS office myself since I'll have legal standing as family.

Be careful, I know in my county you actually lose legal standing as family after adoption, crazy as that sounds. My friend was unable to get the siblings of kids she adopted because legally, they weren't related anymore. Hopefully it isn't like that other places, but my county played things that way. (It was a nasty political case, so many not always be that way).

I'm so glad the visits went well! Hang in about the babies--the possibilities have got to be stressful and overwhelming. However, I trust that you will know what is right for all of you as the time comes.

Thanks for sharing. We'll REALLY celebrate with you when it's all final... it has sure been a long journey. (((HUG)))

Glad the open adoption stuff went well. We love our open adoption with Baby Bear's birth mom.
