We got chickens! (and a duck)

We now have eight chickens. Three Sumatras and a five Rhode Island Reds. The Sumatras are mostly just for fun and pretty, and the RIRs are for eggs. We also got a duck because the man we were buying the chickens from was wanting to get rid of his ducks, so he offered us one for $8, so what the heck. They were already living together anyway. I have NO idea what kind of duck it is.

DH is at the store right now buying a couple of things so we can finish our coop. We ran out of wood before we got the door finished. Oops! We plan to improve it over time but right now it's just pretty basic, but it'll get the job done.

So exciting! We already got two eggs this morning

Oh, that's so exciting! I also just inherited some chickens for FREE!! Some friends of ours had them in their back yard (in town), but got a letter from the city stating chickens aren't alloud. They are fighting it, but we got the chickens, yay! So there are 6- a hen and rooster Americanas sp?, 3 Silkys, and another I can't remember what breed

Our coop is sooo low budget, but I don't care! Hoping this will break in dh and warm him up to more furry farm friends, hehehe!

Looooove farm fresh eggs! We have 8 laying hens that we got as day olds and they are just fabulous layers- 2 RIRs and 6 barred rocks! Love 'em! I also have 2 more Easter Egger pullets that I am impatiently awaiting eggs from, we just got them a few weeks ago, they're about 5 months old. Have fun!

Oh and we have ducks too- a Pekin female and a pair of blue laced Muscovies. Our Pekin lays eggs too and my kids love them!
