Anyone else have a child who likes to sleep on the floor?

We co-sleep with our 28 month old twins in a king-size bed. Every night when I go to bed I find dd face down on the floor sleeping. I pick her up and bring her back into bed with us. I usually wake at some point in the night and notice dd isn't in bed with us and sure enough she's face down on the floor again. She sleeps there all night until about 5:30am when she semi-wakes and crawls into bed with us for the last 30 minutes. This has been for the past month or so. So weird.... . Maybe she's too hot, wants her own space, etc... I've watched her do it before too and over a period of time she slowly scoots down to the end of the bed. I even have a picture of her sleeping with her upper body on the bed and her feet dangling off the end.

Nope. None of my children like to sleep on the floor. I kindof wish one of them would so we'd have more space in our bed. Ha, ha! :giggle

So, in the interest of full disclosure here, I don't have any of my own kids yet- expecting #1 in May.

But, I can tell you that a kid who likes sleeping on the floor isn't totally out of the ordinary. My youngest nephew, now 4, loves sleeping on the floor and really always has. His parents didn't do any co-sleeping or bedsharing, but I do know that as soon as he was out of a crib and could actually get down out of his bed, his parents always found him on the floor in the mornings. He even took naps on the floor.

I remember babysitting him once over night, and I am not even kidding you, I found the kid sleeping on the floor in his closet.

I asked him why he sleeps on the floor near the closet and he said something to the effect of liking how the rug feels. Go figure.

Anyway, I guess I would say that my nephew is a kid just kinda doing his own thing. He doesn't seem motivated out of fear or discomfort. He didn't mention anything about his bed being uncomfortable or too hot. I think the floor is just his preference. As odd as it might seem.

And as for your little one, as long as there's no falling out of bed or other negative things attached to her movement to the floor, maybe it's just her preference too. You could always put a folded soft blanket or a pile of beach towels on the floor to create a pallet for her to rest on when she makes the move each night. We did that in my nephew's closet and he seemed to like it.

Funny. I think she finds it very comfortable. I mean she does sleep there all night there. Just weird that's all. The bed is already right on the floor (boxspring and mattress) so very easy and safe for her to get out. The one time she was dangling her feet were almost touching the floor. The most dangerous part for her is that sometimes she crawls over to the door so when dh or I go into the room we almost run her over. We've learned to open the door slowly and let our eyes adjust to the dark before taking too many steps .

I've found dd#1 on the floor many times too but that's usually because she refused to get into bed for a nap and ended up falling asleep where she was playing on the floor .

by the floor do you mean carpet or hardwood floor?

i prefer the floor. and dd has followed in my footsteps.

she can sleep on a bed. i cant. it hurts my back. its too soft. i can sleep on a futon.

when we used to watch movies in teh living room we prefered to sprawl on teh carpet and eventually just sleep there.

i think dd is one of those people who can sleep anywhere. at one time we would both sleep in our subaru when we first got it. we are both petite so fit in perfectly. with just a sheet or blanket underneath.

awww but karen her sleep routine is soooo cute. i am curious where she would eventually prefer - when she's older.

It's carpet in the bedroom. We plan on eventually setting up a room for her and her twin brother to share so we'll have to see if she ends up sleeping with him, in her own bed or in some corner on the floor .

I have slept reclined in our car on trips that dh and I took before kids. Can't say I would choose it over a bed but....to each their own My dh can pretty much sleep anywhere too.
