Diarreha for 9 days straight

27mo old, no vaxes, and had has the runs for at least 9 days. He's happy as a clam, sleeping fine, his color is a bit off and thats it. Started pedialyte on Friday, and I give him probiotics and GTs Kombucha as well. Any other suggestions? I am guessing its Rota or Noro virus. What else could it be?

Honestly, after 9 days of it I'd be calling the pediatrician with this question.

I too think he needs to be seen by a doctor.

I would wait another few days, before seeking medical attention, unless you're seeing signs of dehydration, or other worrying signs. The diarrhea from rotavirus can hang on a long time, especially in young children. The medical guidelines my ped's office uses say to call after two weeks of diarrhea, in the absence of other concerning symptoms.

Avoid dairy-- those viruses injure the intestine, and sometimes leave kids temporarily lactose-intolerant. The intestine needs to heal before that will go away, which might take a few weeks.

Diarrhea from a viral infection usually lasts several days to 2 weeks, regardless of the type of treatment. The main goal of treatment is to prevent dehydration. Your child needs to drink enough fluids to replace the fluids lost in the diarrhea. Don't expect a quick return to solid stools.

I too agree: time for doctor

My DD has had the runs for at most 4 days and 9 days seems a bit much..like how much are we walking? All day?

he's a gut issue kid besides all this, which is why we haven't seen the doc yet. I did call last week and played phone tag with the nurse. I started back on his liver supplement about the same time, thought that was causing it, and backed way off. Then the diarrhea kept going, and some days it was whole hard poop coming through completely undigested (even though he takes enzymes), like bright orange chunks of sw potato, and then back to the runs that are like pure acid and gave him a horrid rash. Last night the poo was super runny, but at least a darker brown again. This morning I didn't see the first diap, but 4 big splatter sessions on the toilet. He's already dairy free (and 12 other foods) so no worries there. I will call the doc again

Pretty much all kids get rotavirus by the time they are 3(?) and it can last a loooonnnggg time. When dd got it, Culturelle probiotic stopped it quick. I gave her double doses, they have a gluten and dairy free version now. I found it at GNC.
