Helping out the immune system in the winter...

My 7 year old son has had a cold pretty much since late September. Most of the time his colds turn into something croupy or flares up his asthma. He's missed about a week of school in a month and I know we need to really try and support his immune system. What vitamins/supplements would you give? We do a daily multivitamin....but that's about it for now.

We have been taking D3 regularily this year and we seem to be WAY healthier than last year at this time (ohh... I hope that I haven't jinyxed it).

Vitamin D and cod liver oil were supposed to be good for fighting H1N1, and Vitamin D3 is also supposed to be good for asthma.

My son takes: vitamin D3 (he has a deficiency), probiotic (also good for immunity) with 10 billion live active units and 14 active strains, zinc (also has a deficiency), Nordic Naturals fish oil, and Juice Plus (that's his 'multi'). Also, one winter (after he'd had pneumonia), I did Sambucus elderberry and echinaeca syrup 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off (I think I read that on Dr Sears website). Right now we're just doing the Sambucus if he's been exposed to something.

And we're doing an anti cold and flu (I am waiting for it to to be delivered to my door) once every other week (3 pills in a day).
