Will the sticky threads be limited as they currently are? I think a return to direct individual threads being stickied will make data more easily accessible and visible to members. I think members have missed important data that used to be more readily available (and easier to direct them to when answering questions).

The Huddler feature is called a Note, and there is only one allowed at the top of each forum. So that note will contain a few things, a list of the mod for the forum, and links to wikis made from the resource threads that were previously in the forum. So, there will be an easy to access and less cluttery way to get the info out there. Does that answer your question?

Now I'm just toying with the idea of changing my username before the switch. What do you think? Time for something new?

is the software that will be used software other forums can use? is it something available? was it written just for mdc?

i am asking mostly out of curiosity but i also have friends that run other forums that want to change software at some point.

Oh, that's great. Yes, they run other forums as well. You can check them out here. MDC has done customization the software to a certain extent to meet a lot of our requirements, and there are still lots more features in development. Once we've launched, we'd love your ongoing feedback about features you'd like to see. Thanks!

It will be a similar format, but we've customized the appearance to better meet our community's unique needs and represent the Mothering/MDC feel. I do hope that you will give the new site a chance though. One of the ideas behind the format switch is that the ads that members will now see will be more relevant and interesting. The advertising (which enables us to host the community) will be more targeted and of use to our members than say a random car wax ad or make millions a day stuffing envelopes. We will continue to offer ad-free viewing as a premium subscription benefit, so that's something else to consider. In the new platform, there will be an ad at the top and the very bottom and then down along the far right-hand side of the page. It's pretty easy to maneuver through, and ads don't seem to be anywhere close to being 1/3 of the page.

I honestly don't know the answer to that, but blocking the ads is a topic that's not appropriate for me to discuss in Q&S. Ads are how we keep the site open and available at no cost to our members and guests. So please understand that a conversation about how not to view these ads isn't something I'd like to host, and we'd need to take any discussion of this nature to PM. That said, I have no reason to believe that a Firefox product would not work. I know that there are lots of members out there who would be happy to help you via PM. Thanks for your understanding

Smilies are supposed to be transferred over in their entirety so the short answer is no, they should not be affected. There is the potential for a few days of smilie technical difficulties due to our huge number of smilies, but it should only be temporary (if at all). I'm still working out with the technical folks about any limitations the software places on smilies, and I'll be sure to report back as soon as I have all the information. I've seen all the smilies at the test site, and they looked just fine.

Will there be some info up after the transfer explaining how subscribing memberships now fit in? It sounds like lots of the paid features (besides ad-free) will now be universal? I'd love a run-down of all that at some point.

Hi! Yes, I'm working on the new premium subscription information right now so we can release it once we're over in our new digs. I also plan to send out an email to all our current Supporting Members to explain in greater detail what to expect. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

No, the member list will remain exactly as it is. We shouldn't lose any content in the transition because we're having our database imported over in its entirety.

The most recent update I have is that the conversion is planned for Tuesday, but I should hear more this afternoon. So, to answer your question, today would be just fine for name changes. Thank you for asking!

Thank you, it's something I have been meaning to do anyway and I'm glad I happened to see this in new posts or I would have been too late. I just sent it now, so hopefully it's done in time
