Hello I am sorry, yes someone is trying to figure it out. There have been some issues with symbols and compatibility. Someone is working on fixing you.

However if you google "Huddler", and read some articles about the company that makes this platform (e.g., http://venturebeat.com/2010/09/22/huddler-wants-to-turn-your-online-forum-into-a-moneymaker/), you will see that their goal is to make money for both their company as well as the host site (in this case, Mothering). The only way Huddler makes money is with the ads. So even though I agree that Mothering is, in theory, anti-consumerist, this new forum platform is a venture in the opposite direction.

Mothering has always relied on ads. Mothering is a publication and that is a part of business.

What Huddler has brought to the table is the ability to make the ads more geared towards Mothering's ideals and over time, you will see a shift in that direction in our ads. We did have issues with the ad networks we were using previously, there was always things we were adding to the filter and if Huddler can do that successfully that is a great thing for us.

When I am in a forum, let's say TAO forum, and I scroll towards the bottom of the page, if I click on a thread, then hit the back button, I am always redirected to the top of the page, not back to where I was.  I don't know if anyone has mentioned this in this thread, but it is quite annoying.

I use the "Back" button a LOT.  It is how I keep track of where I am.  But with the site bumping me up to the top each time, I can't keep up with where I am.

Plus, there is the added thing that it does not mark the threads I check out as "read" until I hit the refresh button.  So, unless I continuously hit the refresh button I can keep going back to the same page and seeing the same thing, over and over again.

I am not sure if I am making this clear, because it is just "minor" things, I guess, but they are annoying when I am surfing around the site.

So, if I go to the TAO Forum and then scroll down to the middle of the page, then I click on a thread there, read the thread, post on the thread, then hit the back button, the TAO page looks exactly the same as it did before I clicked.  I will not only be back at the very top of the TAO page, but if I look down the page to find the thread I just posted on it does not show that I have posted on that thread, and I will still show the "Go to first post" button on the left indicating that I have never been there.

I can check out every post on the page, followed by hitting the back button, and by looking at the TAO page, never know I looked at even one thread unless I hit the refresh button (or go forward to another page and then go "forward" to the TAO page again).  It is very confusing.

Please say they are going to fix that?

In the old forums the "clicked" links changed colors and when you hit "Back" it took you back exaclty where you were before you clicked (so if you were at the bottom, you found yourself at the bottom once you went "Back").

I so agree!!!! I posted this earlier but haven't seen an answer yet.... (although I still have a couple more pages to read on this thread!)

It is the exact same thing we went through on the other software.

Exactly-I had to report Call to Glory or some other shoot em up game that had to be removed.  BUT having all the formula ads is really lame.  I've had Enfamil, and Parent's Choice(Walmart brand) both as ads for me.  I'm ok with ads, BUT I REALLY HATE the review platform.  It should have it's own zone.  Currently I'm not shopping for diapers, a sling or anything.  Plus I can't stand that there isn't an option to close that so you can't see them.  I really could care less that someone loves their Sofie the Giraffe or BabyHawk.  I guess I'm a big girl and figure I can look that stuff up myself.  I don't really need it in my face.

Most of my freezing issue has been resolved and the site is still slow, but nowhere like it was.

Ack- really trying to embrace the new format and not get too frustrated...but my pregnancy hormones are getting in the way;)

-Have subscribed forums been deleted? I had to resubscribe to my due date club and finding your tribe area...but there's no clear distinction between forums in my subscriptions section.  All I'm seeing is LOTS of threads; some which were read (literally) years ago.  How/where do I "see" my forums?!?

-Also, when searching a forum (like this one let's say, for answers to questions others have already raised) there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how the results are listed; they certainly aren't in chronological order. (which would be helpful as recent posts are going to be far more useful to me in certain forums than those from 2005.)

-Do we no longer have a User Control Panel? Is it just "My Profile"? And where do I edit preferences for seeing siggies and the like (I've had to click the preferences box in individual forums to allow signatures 4-5 times now...)

Deep breath, deep breath, deep breath greensad.gif

well, i'm not able to reply with a quote, so i apologize.

to the person who indicated i was being naive, i never indicated mdc should not have ads, or in some way try to make money or support itself. i do, however, have some expectations of how that advertising and money making is managed, especially by a company that espouses certain values, and especially when i feel i have been "baited and switched". i think it's fair to express dissatisfaction with how it is now being managed, and i think it's fair to expect to be replied to on that count.

as for the consumerism, we can agree to disagree on what counts as espousing consumerism and what does not. i do not (and never did) disagree that some people might enjoy the reviews. and i never said they should not be allowed. i DO disagree that i should have to look at them.

i do feel like i've been "baited-and-switched" on this count. if the "reviews" had been in place in an ad-like-placement before my supporting membership had been "due" last time, i would not have bothered to renew, especially since so many member benefits are null. if i'm going to still be here, and seeing what i consider to be "ads", i may as well get it for free, and put my $10 somewhere else. like maybe an ad-free magazine. lol.gif

(and thank you for the spell check tip!)

We are not going to be hosting formula ads. If you see them please pm georgia or myself. If you are having pm issues feel free to post a threads. We need the link that the ad is directing you to, a screenshot also helps. Thanks!

...Anyone else think it's a LITTLE bit funny that Oscar Mayer ads are showing up in vegetarian forums, and Enfamil ads in breastfeeding forums?

Yeah it's inappropriate but in a that's-so-wrong-it's-not-even-right way... I had to giggle a little.  Maybe they can put ads for cribs or sleep-train books in the Family Bed forum, or for Huggies in the cloth diaper forum...

I'm sure they'll fix it and all these things will be ironed out.  Try to see the humor wink1.gif

What happened to stickies?  There used to be a bunch in the Oct. DDC and now they're just wandering around with the normal posts.

I had the same problem with the subscribed forums -- I can't see my "customized" MDC I'd managed previously in the UserCP through forum subscription. (Edit:  more accurately, I can't see how to recreate what I had...) I'm not sure if I've missed the answer...

Searching:  After you search, there's a button to list Results by Date, to the right of "advanced search."

We are going to be adding some supporting member features. I realize some SM features are now for everyone but there are some plans in the works. I don't have the go-ahead to discuss that information but georgia will let you all know we are ready to put it out there.

We lost our stickies!! bawling.gif We don't have stickies anymore.

Do please feel free to make your stickies wikis if they are the sort that has all the information in the first post. To make a post a wiki click on the little puzzle piece in the lower right hand corner of a post.

I see that I can post smileys in the text by typing in a code I remember tiphat.gif  but in my sig, that is not working.  Also, when I call up the smileys for selection I have the same issue that I can only see some, and no scroll bar appears.  I have not even gotten around to trying to read threads... but I do like that I can have an avatar now.

Please seriously consider allowing a thread per issue while we all figure this system out, I am sure it would be easier to read a thread called, "My signature doesn't work" if you are trying to get a working sig, than to have to search this thread or read a lot of posts....

It is easier for me to respond in this thread. It isn't mandatory that everyone post in this thread. I can see how it would make things easier to find for instance, the smilie issue rather than digging through this thread.

There is a goal date of Monday for the smilies to be fully operational.

I agree with a couple previous posts that this long thread is REALLY overwhelming.  I posted a big list of questions/concerns about 7 pages back, and it got completely missed.

Another question- I just noticed in the new threads, you can't hover over the thread title to see the text in the post.  ???  (Also in my subscriptions page, but that's not so much of an issue, because I know what the thread are about already.)

I tried earlier to go back up to a previous sentence by clicking in it and the whole reply just sort of fell apart when I pushed enter to make a new paragraph. **just discovered a new problem, not sure if it's been addressed, but if i'm using the full-page editor in mozilla, my "spell check" function does not work.

To get the spell check function to work you have to hold down the ctrl key while right clicking.

I spent a lot of time in my life feeling left out and really don't want that to happen again. I mean, I have Facebook for social networking, and I have MDC to be around like-minded mamas. IDK, its a different feeling - a different reason for belonging. Anyways, thats my 2 cents.

Otherwise, I look forward to the graphics changes and what-not. Though I will miss the tan
