AWESOME info, 1stimestar! Would you say that the museum experiences are good for a 3 and 1 yo tagging along? As in, can they touch stuff, or is it more for adults? I've heard really good things about the Museum of the north, but the cultural center sounds like a good option too.

Also, sorry if TMI, but is there anywhere in town where I can get a Diva Cup? There isn't down her on the peninsula, and we won't really be in ANC long enough to track one down.

kachemak wholesale in homer sells them (i bought one there) and blueberry baby in fairbanks sells them as well.

Last time I was there Blueberry Baby had both sizes, but I think they only keep size 2 in stock. If you need size 1 you might call ahead.

We're in need of an orthodontist. We only have DKC, and that leaves us with a very limited number of orthodontists... There was ONE in soldotna, but he's not accepting new clients right now... so we're looking at the ones in Anchorage/Eagle River. I'm wondering if anybody can tell me anything about any of these folks--good/bad/ugly? We're going to talk to the orthodontist who is here in Homer and see if we can convince him to start taking DKC, and we'll talk to the other two in Soldotna as well, but it looks like it may be anchorage...

I am looking for a store that sells Alaskan Made coffee mugs (pottery) in Anchorage or Eagle River.

There is a guy in Palmer, named Arlen, who is always at the fair and makes amazing pottery...but I can't find his contact info. I don't know if he sells at any stores though. The name of his studio is Arlen's Pottery Studio. But that's Palmer...I don't know in Anchorage/ER.

I'll ask at work about orthodontists who take DKC.

Took LO to a well baby visit to which the ped joked that LO wasn't supposed to be sick. He has another ear infection. I hope the antibiotics work this time.

Yes, there are hands on things for the littles to do at the museum.

it looks like we'll probably be in Anch for 3-4 days in december (the week of the 15th). We will be doing the ortho appt, and a little shopping, and seeing a friend... but if some of you who live in that neighborhood would like to arrange some kind of shindig, I'd love to hang out. orngbiggrin.gif

 

my 3yo has an ear infection. first one i've ever had to deal with. greensad.gif I guess i should count my blessings rather than whining eh?

So, my Daughter was to Coombs, for her braces. I do not know if they do DKC but they were great people and did excellent work

 

Looking good! Maybe someday I'll put my mug up for you all to see.

I have a sneaking suspician that the avatars were randomly assigned, as I am seeing the same ones repeated through the forum. Mine was a generic "30 years of mothering" or something, so I just put in my face instead. Ta-DA!!

Something only another BF mom can appreciate.  Had DS with me at work today; which was really a health fair.  He was being a typical toddler, cute as a button and with more energy than a tazamain devil with a cup of coffee, then around 12 he asked for milk.  I told him we had to sit in the chair.  Milk started doing it's magical powers...Lots of people commented how cute it was that he was asleep which was becoming true.  Anyway some lady said how cute he was and came in for a closer look and then all of a sudden she realized he was nursing.  I think she thought that I would be offended.  It was funny.

I have christmas gifts to sew for the whole family, which is a goodly portion of why I'm MIA.

In the last couple of weeks I've also processed/frozen/canned a bunch of pumpkin, and also we got a half a cow and asked for the scraps with it--and now I have literally a box full of scraps. I'd expected a lot of soup bones that I could make broth with, but mostly it's not bones but fat--so all of a sudden I'm learning how to render tallow and make candles!

So that's where I've been!

I have no idea about tallow soap...I know it can be made, but I haven't really looked into making any myself because I have a good stack of handmade soaps around already, so the candles are what I'm most interested in at the moment.

 

Also, spruce said I should share this recipe for pumpkin pie fudge http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/pumpkin-fudge-2/Detail.aspx (long facebook story...) It's pretty good stuff.

(ETA, it has corn syrup in it, but you can sub with maple syrup, or probably even leave it out...)
