DD is 2.5. She loves TV. Well, technically we don't have a TV, but we watch shows and movies on our computer/projector and plenty of YouTube, so we're not TV-free in any meaningful sense at all!
She'd watch till she dropped if we let her. She doesn't necessarily sit there idly staring the whole time - if it's a grownup/boring movie she'll dance around or come and go - but as soon as it's finished she'll say "Watch anuzzer one?". Movies that appeal to kids, like The Princess and the Frog, she will watch with great interest and point things out. She also loves watching Celtic Woman clips on YouTube - she calls them "dresses", because the singers tend to wear froofy prom-dress-type costumes.
And she LOVED the Babies movie!
I'm torn on it. She learns a lot from what we watch, and it's great being able to look up any animal on YouTube! And it's very nice that she'll sit and watch Pingu if DH and I want some alone time.
But I do think we watch too much TV, and we'll have to start watching much tamer things once she becomes a bit more aware/easily scared. We grew up very non-media-savvy, though, and I had to catch up on a lot of "basic" cultural references when I was older... and I don't mean watching every episode of Coronation Street, I mean learning that Darth Vader was Luke's father. Then I got a degree in Screen and Media Studies.
So I want to share some of the "greats" with DD when she's a bit bigger, not keep them from her.
