OMG, seriously Nick! I just read your RR, and I have got to hand it to you! Wow, what great improvement in your tempo!

So, I actually have RUNNING to report today!  Started with taking the dogs for a 2 mile walk.  Dropped Abby at Preschool, then boogied home, changed into shorts!privateeyes.gif and hit the road!  3 miles total!  It wasn't fast (I assume, I left my Garmin at home), but it was done, and I felt like I had a consistant pace. It felt comfortably hard.  No pain in the leg now, either!  WOOT!  Then, a cool down mile walk with the dogs!

Now, to take the puppy to the vet to see how big he's getting!

RR: ended up running my normal 5.44 mile loop in 44 minutes.  Although I stopped to take a phone call from school.  I hung up and then dh called which worked well for me to share with him my phone call.  (it's time to share the birds and bees talk with my 5th grader!).

Ran errands, getting stuff done for the holidays, it's already stressing me out to be in the stores with all the other shoppers.  eek!  Going to be doing online shopping tonight.

Eagerly awaiting my Christmas present to come via FedEx ...... I know it is scheduled for tomorrow's arrival, but one can hope right?!  thumb.gif

My awesome dingo shirt arrived today! I love it. I'm seriously so happy - the fit is great, the graphic is beautiful, and the neckline (v-neck) is perfect. I can't wait to wear it running!

Nic - 2:04 is sooo doable! You are rockin' it! There's no way I'll be able to hang with you for the Disney full!

This week is the next round of can she do it?! 8 wed, 5 thur w/speed work, 4 friday, 12 saturday, 21 sunday.  I might skip friday if I feel tired at all so I have fresh legs for the weekend.  I'd say I'm averaging 11 min miles on my long runs. Sometimes a little under, but not much.  But this is more about endurance for me, so I try to ignore the speed if I can.

Welcome new Dingo mama's!!

eksmom - you know you're in my heart, love and peace to you sweet mama.

Jaygee - ever hear the saying 'don't borrow trouble'?  I had a lump in my armpit when pg with ds.  Long story short, after a long pg with it getting bigger and bigger, doc took me serious and panicked...had it out within days...it was breast tissue.  We were freaked that I had some rare and aggressive lymph cancer.  Don't borrow trouble.  When you know, then you will deal. And you will, because you are one of us.  Powerful, strong, tough, courageous, and loved. Very loved.  It will be okay. And we will be here.

Good day at work.  It feels good when I feel helpful.

I want to dedicate my goofy...but I've been struggling to find the right words.  I have been touched by suicide several times now.  The horror and the despair of it are just awful.  Somehow I want the idea of hope.  Without hope, despair is a thief of promise.  And if goofy isn't about hope, I just can't imagine what else is? Ya know?  It's crazy, and silly, and GOOFY!  It's about holding a hope in your heart, with fear, excitement, dread, anticipation.  It is the antithesis of despair, sorrow, isolation, hopelessness.  And while I have all these words to express my thoughts, I can't conjure up a few short ones that summarize the depth of what I feel.

Nic ~ awesome race!  You have gotten so fast this year.  I'm betting DH will have to make good on that promise soon!

BBM  ~ thank you for the words of wisdom.  They are always appreciated.  I'm actually pretty calm about the whole thing after doing a little research and realizing how high the false positive rate is for the screening mamm.  I think dedicating your Goofy to those who have taken their lives is a good idea.  And you're right ~ Goofy is all about HOPE!

I got my Dingo shirt today and it's PERFECT!  I love it and can't wait to wear it on my next run.

The kids and I had a great evening playing Legos and listening to DH's compilation of 70's rock and roll.  Nothing like listening to your son sing "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" while he builds a Lego model of the Shangai World Financial Center!

My shirt came!  *envision happy dance because I'm too lazy to poke through the smilies tonight*

BBM--I love that idea.  There have been two mothers in the area who committed suicide recently (one was my sister's neighbor, whom I mentioned a couple of months ago) and it's sooooo sad.

Thought about running today, but it's 10:30 and we're not finished packing.  So....no.

The plan is to run Wednesday and Friday.  Maybe I'll try for one on Saturday after we get back and my usual on Sunday.

Or if being with a ton of people is driving me crazy, maybe I'll run on Thursday too.

In case the motel doesn't have wireless, I wanted to say how much I appreciate all of you, and peace and healing and light and love to everyone this week.

BBM, I love that you want to dedicate your Goofy. I am in total awe of your Goofy-ness and wonder at your dedication. You're right. I have been giving much thought to suicide lately (anniversary of my friend 3 years ago and a few other situations) and while I know despair, I am so thankful to be so far from that absolute hopelessness. You rock, mama.

Speaking of rocking, Nick, WTG! You are my hero! I think I have a goal for 2011! I need to find a nice half and get training. Ahem. Once I can run 5 straight miles again.

I have been happily working out almost daily again, not as hard or long as I want to, but I have to get my fitness back first. A couple weeks I should be back to a sub-30 5k and I will go from there. For the time being, I am running, using the elliptical and biking, and using weight machines and floor work to try to keep a balance of strength and cardio to avoid injury and make progress. That hip muscle I'd described a while back bothers when I run a little faster (6.0mph or more), so I wonder whether it's an issue of stride. Either way, I am back into the routine of working out before work on workdays, and just working out on non-work days. thumb.gif

I am having some Dinglet concerns. Of course my kids are terrific. But unlike some of the Dinglet Dynamos here (woot!), my kids' fitness seems to be sliding! gloomy.gif Ds's mile time on his physical report was 10:30 (he's 9 and I know he could do better), and he can't get anywhere near touching his toes. So, strength, endurance and flexibility all need work. My solution is to take both kids to the Y 3x weekly after school during winter so that we can work on all three. He can run on the track, bike, row and use the machines, and then we stretch on mats. Dd will be taking Middle Eastern Dance with a dear friend this winter, which will be awesome, but ds will need something to offset the Lego time. If I didn't intervene, I know he's continue to go downhill.

If it sounds like I am overreacting, I have noticed his posture looking old-manish. He doesn't like to go outside and help because he complains of the cold. He is usually sitting, often in chairs. I want to help him feel strong, confident and energized, and lately I don't see him this way.

The other part of my concern for him is that he is 9.5 and definitely prepubescent. He's starting to get stinky, for example. I want to get that habit of exercise into him to fight off the depression that I fear is virtually inevitable for him. Both I and dh are very good at being depressed, and my memories of it go back easily to second grade. He is an extremely empathetic and caring young man, bent on social justice and moved by oppression and suffering of others. I want to help him to feel empowered to do good, just the opposite of how I felt during those years.

While he's doing great in school, he is missing a few of the foundational skills (specifically in math). I feel like I really stole a year from him when I was working FT. So we now have a plan in place to get strong in those fundamentals, and to strengthen his body, too. I can't make up for the year I was too busy, but I can be here now. I'm careful to use language that describes strengthening, and reminding him that this is how you train. You start with something that feels a little too hard, and you do it until it becomes easy, and then kick it up another notch. He gets it.

I told him he's old enough now to train for an event. Maybe I can get him to consider a 5k (or even a 10k) next year.

So while I am feeling guilty, I know we have the tools, and we can make a few small steps that will pay off in lifelong dividends. We went last night. We'll go again Wednesday after school, and then Friday for sure. They have Saturday swimming. These are separate from my own workouts, of course, because I need a lot more work and they need a lot of guidance.

Looking forward to my shirt!

Real, serial posting to wish you safe travels and a peaceful holiday. upsidedown.gif

And my love to eks too. I hope you feel a massive surge of support from all around you.

BBM, your dedication is perfect for the Goofy.  Hope, joy, silliness, and trust are almost personified by Goofy.  Almost as he isn't really a person.

Jo, it sounds like you have a great awareness and a plan.  May it all move forward for you and your ds.

Strength and love out to eksmom.

My littlest is 'doing starfall' while I 'get ready to run' or some such thing.  It was raining at 5 so I didn't go then and now I have the luxury of going this morning which brings me to joggers.  I had a giant baby jogger with 20" wheels once upon a time.  It was marvelous and I loved it.  It rolled on its own, had a wrist strap and a hand brake;  it was so easy to push.  I sold it after several years of use for more than I paid for it new.  (I moved it overseas and wasn't moving it back.)  Right now I have bec's old ironman.  It is a true running stroller but not as easy as I remember the baby jogger, especially for turns (both have a fixed front wheel).  I am not sure if it is heavier or if I am just 10 years older or what.  It works great but a run without dinglets is often more refreshing.

I had more but it escaped my mind.

I am looking forward too my shirt!  I hope it comes today or tomorrow so I can wear it on Thursday and be thankful for it in person.

Jo - My eldest is also 9.5.  How cool would it to have the kids train for a 5k and run it together!  Maybe we could pick something this summer in between us?  Katie, while still very strong, will say she wants to run, but hasn't been running.  I don't want to push her into something that she isn't interested in, but also know that she sometimes needs to be pushed!  I know she would be totally game for running a race with another dinglet!

Ladies - I'm so sore from that 3 miles!  It just goes to show how much running does for my fitness!  That was just over 30 minutes of running, and I haven't been sore like that for ages!  I LOVE it!  Swimming today.  I have a 2500 yard workout printed up.  Heading out in a few minutes!

Oh, and I am in Dingo Shirt bliss!!! It's perfect!  A smidge tight, but that gives me a goal, and it is still very wearable.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to Poppy and Mel for putting this together!!!!

Re: kids meeting for a race - I have been fantasizing about the Dingo camping trip (yes, already...) being at Lofty's or in MN, both of which I could actually make!  We could have a fun run for the kids..... er, as usual....

Jo - does he *like* to do any sports/physical activities that he could join a class of (oh, what a wretched sentence)?, like a kid yoga class, karate/kung foo, swimming that is not lessons, climbing (is there a climbing gym?), gymnastics, dance (yeah, I just watched Billy Elliot for the first time last week luxlove.gif), boxing? ...  I think what you are doing is great, but it always helps to have positive peer pressure, and to actually like the activity.

Poppy - I didnt know you are from louiseville.  Random, but the two people I know from there are Tim Peters and Susan Taylor. They would be near our age, so maybe you crossed paths...

Eks - thinking of you hug.gif

Bec - I bribed my ds last night with the Danny McCaskell video if/when he finished his dinner.  He went from "this smells like poop" to "oh mom, this is the best dinner ever.  Thank you for making us such yummy food!" and cleaned his bowl in 10 minutes orngtongue.gif

Jo ~ I was going to suggest the same thing as sparkletruck.  DS *could* easily get so engrossed in Legos or building or drawing houseplans (don't ask... it's his passion du jour), but gymnastics, the climbing gym, and mountain biking balance all of that out.  He's not really a traditional sports guy, although when the neighborhood kids came knocking on the door to invite him to play football he was VERY excited to play.

mommajb ~ don't know about you, but after that rain it cleared beautifully and now it's only 44 and sunny!  Perfect for a run!

But alas, I will not be running this morning.  Rather, taking DD2 to gymnastics and shopping for Thanksgiving dinner.  My RE agent called this morning.  There are two buyers very interested in our house, but one has to sell their condo first and the other is in a lease and is waiting until it's up (NEXT SUMMER!!!!!) to actually buy.

sparkle ~ whine away.  That's what we're here for!!!!

I ran.  I almost didn't but I did.  I over dressed and stripped as I ran.  My regular RP almost ran me over in her car - wait until I get her on the phone!  Linus slept in the BOB so I take anything bad I said back.  (The difference is that it is shorter handle to nose so I have to bear down to lift the front wheel and the baby almost liked to tip over backward.)

Why are we talking about Louisville again?  I missed it.  Is there a dingo meet-up?   When and where are we camping?  Should it be timed and located near an offical 5K or would we run our own?

Jo, I forget but could your ds join the swim team?  I know a couple of parents have mentioned that joining at that age (and practicing regularly) really helped their sons lose the baby softness and define up nicely musclewise just as they were starting to care. It also helps that our team is so non-competitive for the most part.  This makes it fun and progress is always measured by the individual not by who is fastest, ykwim?

Bec, have you looked into GOTR or even starting a chapter?  It is sooooo like Girls Scouts only with a road race instead of cookies. As to shirts, my mail doesn't come until 3PM lately.

Thanks for the understanding and suggestions, ladies. You totally get it. Ds likes football and soccer, but I'm not in a position to sign him up for league sports or too many classes now, not so much because of the expense but because of the difficulty sticking to a strict schedule, between the needs of work and farm and dh's intermittent but lengthy business travel. He hates swimming, but likes to run and bike. I think he might like yoga, but strange as it seems, he loves "fitness" stuff together with me. So, for now, we will do this, and see where we are in January when the next Y session starts. In spring, he can do soccer league again, but summer-to-fall is too busy for the craziness of practices and games. When he is older and doesn't need my intensive participation, we can get him into more things, but for now I'm working within my limits. Sigh.

Jo, no sighing. We all have limits.

Did I mention my younger children have turned in their Christmas wishlists?  First off, I do not want to celebrate the holidays this year.  It takes to much of what I don't have and we are not religious so it doesn't make any sense to me.  Dd2 wants to go back to homeschooling and have her own room with her own laptop.  Dd3 wants her own computer and her own box of donuts.  Ds2 wants 3 donuts because he is 3.  I have a 3 bedroom house, 5 children, and the donut shop they are referring to will close for the holidays.  Maybe I will pull the two little girls from school...

But then little girls will get what they want, which hardly seems fair, if the other options are not a possibility.

Buying donuts and freezing them, mommajb?

Sparkle - I'm glad the video got the meal eaten!  Hurray for small victories!

GOTR - I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to have my kids in that.  No chapter in my town, and I am so over committed right now with things, that I just can't see starting one on my own.  I have been having fantasies, the last few years, though, of taking my girl scouts through the C25k, and having them run our 4th of july 5k as a fundraiser for charity or something, though.  Maybe I can make that happen this year.

Crazy busy day today!  But, do have to report 2500 awesome yards swam, and 1 mile walked with dogs so far.
