I am trying to gather info about mama cloth so I can start building a stash for myself. I am totally new to this and not sure where to start. Any advice you have would be great, thanks!

I am also new to it. I have two types now. Plain flannel liners (not waterproof) and liners and pads with waterproof fleece back and bamboo velour top. I like both. I bought them on etsy. I kept a wet pail during my period and washed the pads with the diapers. The daily liners I wash with the regular or the diaper wash.

My suggestion is - get started!
I'm a planner so I spent a lot of time researching and pondering, and once I finally started I wish I'd done it sooner. I would suggest starting small, just 2-3 pads and see how you like them as they vary in style/size and materials. Personally I use liners even when not menstruating so that was what I tried first (so I wouldn't have to wait a month to use them, lol).
Personally I like fleece backing for waterproofing (instead of PUL) because it's more breathable. Also wings to make them stay put. I also found it helpful to find out the width of the pads (when snapped) to compare with the width of my undies because if they are not even close then either the pad or the undies will bunch and not be comfy.
You didn't ask about where to get them, but I thought I'd share the places I've tried and liked:
- Homestead Emporium (gorgeous dyed pads, lots of size/style choices, in high demand - she stocks weekly on Fridays)
- Tree Hugger (love the minky versions because they don't stain, these are a bit more bulky because they're T&T but if serging irritates your skin then it would help)
- GEM Cloth (very economical pads, pretty and well made, also has a site with clearance items, etc.)
Before ordering I also emailed each of these ladies with questions and they were all quick to answer and helpful. Plus I love that I'm supporting a WAHM and also that I have so many colour and fabric choices.

Sckoon and LunaPads (the founder is an MDC mama, I believe) are my favs.
I like that the "pad" part stays, and then you can change the liners.
