Comfy but nice-looking pants for boys?

My DD gets to basically wear PJs but look put together and adorable all the time -- our go-to outfit for her in cool weather is leggings and a dress or long shirt -- nice soft cotton, so comfy yet so cute!

But poor DS is often in jeans, which just seem so stiff and movement-inhibiting in comparison to DD's clothes. He hangs out in sweats a lot at home, but I don't like to send him to school in such casual clothes. His corduroys are a little softer, so maybe I could get a few more pairs of those, but I'm wondering if I'm totally missing an item of clothing for boys that would be just as comfy yet just as pulled-together looking as leggings are on little girls? Or should I just get over my clothing hang-ups and start sending him to school in sweats?

Have you tried Naartjie? I think it is either a style you love or don't, but we have gotten many items from there because the fabrics are soooo comfy! They may have too much of a relaxed look for what you are looking for, but the pricing is amazing for the level of quality (I would say easily on par with the Gap, but Old Navy pricing).
Good luck!

My ds is usually in elastic-waist pants. Do you have a Sears near you? They carry Land's End, which makes lots of elastic-waist pants, and I also have good luck with Sears' house brand, Toughskins. I have gotten some really great Toughskins pants that are basically sweatpants but styled like cargo pants. And super cheap! I'm not a big fan of jeans either, they seem kind of uncomfortable for ds.

Another fan of Lands End here. DS wears their pants almost exclusively. This pair is probably his favorite style:

This is what my ds likes except he likes the ones lines in cotton jersey (like t-shirts). The seams of the unlined ones annoy him but the lined ones have no seams against the skin and the lining is softer. The trekker pants come in slim and husky, too. These are the lined ones:

Those Lands End pants are great -- thanks so much for the tip!

I just wanted to add, not all jeans are created equal. My DS has several pairs, and his Gap jeans are not rigid at all and adjust well around the waist. His Osh Kosh, on the other hand, make him look like he can't walk, so we don't use them unless all the others are dirty.

I get most of ds's pants from either Rugged Bear (I get a discount at my local one) or at Naartjie. Naartjie has some cool styles that are comfy and they are much more affordable than most places.

Another vote for naartjie!

We also like the sets from Tea Collection.

There's nice pull-on cargos from Old Navy, like this: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/produc...d=1&pid=773399. It's a very popular style and you can get them pretty much anywhere. They are very comfortable- not as stiff as some jeans can be and definitely not sweats!

Baby Gap with elastic waist pants - we get the pants that are lined with jersey which makes it even more "relaxed".

Going to check out some of these other brands mentioned

It seems like lately a lot of our DS's pants have been coming from Target. While my boys would happily wear fleece pants all day, it takes about 2 seconds before they are covered in hair. White dog, black dog, multicolored cats Target lately has some athletic pants with elastic waists made by Champion. Some come lined with a thin cotton material. No hair or other stuff sticks to the pants. For whatever reason my kids do not stain them like they do regular sweat pants. We are big Lands End fans but were running into the animal hair issues with a lot of their pants lately.

Does he complain about the jeans? My boys wear jeans whenever they get a choice (my kindergartner has to wear navy slacks to school). They only wear sweats for sports practice/games (when it's absolutely too cold for shorts).

Sometimes. My MIL got him a few pairs of Levi brand jeans, and I think they're particularly stiff -- he doesn't complain about the Children's Place brand jeans he has, which feel a lot softer to me.

We have a Carter's outlet near us and wear a lot of their sweats, cotton and jogging type pants. My only complaint is that the fit seems to vary hugely! The cotton, elastic waist ones that are often about $5 each run much smaller than the nylon jogging pant type ones. It's unpredictable and that annoys me! DS has wished for "boy leggings" before though! I agree that DD's stuff just looks (and feels) more comfy.
