16 hours of labor, then it stops?

Has this ever happened to you? What did you do or not do?

Happened several times with my twins. The first time, I got to 3cm and we stopped labor with mag sulfate (I was only 33 weeks). Then 3 weeks later it started again and I got to 6 cm before it died off. I walked the halls of the hospital for 36 hours, hoping it would pick back up but no dice. I went home. At 37.5 weeks, it started again and i made to 9 cm! Then it died off. At that point I wasn't comfortable going home so we tried pitocin. It didn't work and I finally asked my midwife to break my bag of water and it FINALLY did the trick. Both boys were born vaginally within less than an hour.

Well if you made progress, still had intact membranes, and weren't post-term... I'd be a tiny bit thankful. It sounds really mean to say it like that but it gives you the chance to go to bed and finish off labor at a later time with more energy.

I'd be pretty P/O'ed though if it happened to me.

Hmmm, what about if you were 42 wks and 2 days?

things have slowly started up again though.

Wow. 16 hours of active labor at 42w2d and then nothing (until now)? I guess it would depend on how I felt. If I was exhausted, I'd leave it be and get some rest. If I had some energy left in me, I'm pretty sure I'd go for AROM or pit. BTJM.

Everything stopped at 6cm with my last baby after around 14 hours of active labor. What did I do?
  1. I slept.
  2. I went out to eat.
  3. I came home and cried.
  4. I worked on positions my chiro gave me to help my baby rotate (she was posterior).

9.5 hours after things stopped, things got going again. Baby rotated. I had my mw break my water to keep baby in position and she was born fairly soon after that.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. It can be emotionally draining.
