Birthmark on lower spine, sacral dimple...help! *UPDATE* WITH PIC AND DR.'S OPINION - Page 2

My son has a pretty pronounced dimple.. They did an U/S of his spine. He doesn't have any spinal issues but it was worth looking at IMO.

I have one, significantly deeper and more noticeable than the OP's baby.  No tuft of hair or stork bites though.

I think it's certainly worth it to look into, but in my case, it came to nothing.

I grew up with no issues related to it.  I potty trained early, walked at 12 months, no allergy issues, and was very physically active as a child and teenager.  I was competitive in gymnastics for 10 years, ran hurdles in track and field, and off and on did soccer, basketball, and softball through childhood.

But like I said, I'd probably get it checked out.

My 4th baby was just born and is in the hospital for Low Imperforate Anus, about to have surgery.

On a totally unrelated note, he also has a sacral dimple and just had the ultrasound--because he is here and they're checking *everything* because of the other issue.  While the surgeon who will be doing his surgery tomorrow has not been in, his pediatrician has, and he said the US was totally normal.  My 2 year old son also has a sacral dimple and no issues.  My husband says they have my butt, so apparently I have one too.  ;)

So...since 2 of my kids have it and it's nothing, I'd tend to agree with the pedi and say that it is nothing.

Looks flatter than my dd's butt dimple did/does and dd is 27 months with no signs of any issues.

Also, she had fur like that over most of her body for like a month, it stayed on her shoulders until after 2 months old.

My 7 yr old daughter has spina bifida oculta. She was born with a dimple at the top of her buttock on the spine. The spine also protrudes to a point there a bit. It used to be a deep hole but has since mostly closed. After running many tests when she was born before I could even see her they found she had a hole running through her body not hitting any major organs thank god!!! Her skin was protecting the hole. After many years of check ups and tests they realized she was very lucky and was able to walk and run properly. It is a miracle. She does have back issues of which are helped with a very supportive but super soft mattress. My oldest daughter is fine. Last year I had my 3rd daughter and they did many tests and said she was safe. She was born with a stork bite on the back of her head. She has developed a mis shaped head but they said its normal. Recently she was at the peds and she freaked because she doesn't want to stand or walk at all and she just started army crawling a week ago she's turning 1 next week. Now she has to go see a specialist and get a physio consult. I always had a feeling something wasn't right but was told she was fine. I should have listened to my gut being through this. They are saying she may have hip dysplasia as her legs pop in and out and that is that is why she can't stand. I truly hope they are wrong!!! Please don't freak out but listen to ur instincts. Moms know when something isn't right with there babies. The earlier you catch things the better the future outcome will be. Good luck
